What happened in Bombay is no more a taste of what’s to come than Die Hard 4 was. Using this example to foreshadow the future is like using any isolated example to foretell the War on Drugs ™. It’s an intellectually dishonest example, and you know it. Was it troubling, disappointing, worrisome? You betcha! But I think it speaks more clearly about Indian/Pakistani relations than anything else. And, as such, it just proves that countries like India have to take terrorism more seriously than they did. It wasn’t lost on me that they, like us 7 years ago, had various intelligence agencies who all operated independently from one another. This, like 9/11 was for us, will be a real wake-up call. And it means yet another strong country is now actively engaged in the war against terror. That’s good news, even in light of what’s happpened. This is truly- unlike my other post, as you suggest- the dumbest thing ever written on a blog. Period.
And you should know that my father-in-law’s brother, under Gen. Musharraf, for years was the Pakistani chief of police, and although I have no specific understanding of what in particular caused this attack (other than the bleedingly obvious), I think in this case, it’s a bit of an isolated attack, insofar as it sounds like Jews got the brunt of it – unspeakable torture, maiming, etc. I get to talk to Pakistanis who understand what’s going on here, and though it may be too much for your pea-brain to understand, the war on islamofascist terrorism isn’t going to be won exclusively with hard or soft power. It’ll take both. “I should know”? Why? You should know that My uncle was Jesus Chris’s personal bodyguard. See? I can say anything I want too.
And, you know, as a quick aside, my daughter is the granddaughter of a lapsed Muslim, who decided that the faith was a little silly (his words) and he had more to do with his life. He went to England to learn medicine, and now practices urology. Most of his family is still in Pakistan. Yet I feel confident in telling you that my daughter has as much chance of being stoned by Muslims as you do. I would say she’s got more of a chance of getting accidentally shot by a second amendment nut, but that’s another argument entirely.
