I had a long discussion last night with Pascal, during which i alternately annoyed and infuriated him, as is my style.
He was bitching about all the horrible, horrible shit Bush did, and I wasn’t disagreeing. I wouldn’t agree that he is the cause of all the trouble we have today, and it sent me on a tangent that opened my head up to something I thought I’d share.
I’ve spoken a bit about the divisions and schisms in Christianity. The fragmentization of Christianity into dozens of different sects, large and small, has prevented Chrtistianity from being a force to be reckoned with, and for that reason I belive those schisms to be the work of evil people, if not the work of evil itself.
The liberals in thic country have seen this lesson, and learned it well. The forces of individuals and the media have worked very hard to segregate and divide conservatives, and the divisiveness grows stronger every day. The ultimate goal of the Left is to have those on the right evenly divide into millions of ideologies of one.
While they stand together, and elect idiots, by virtue of the fact that they are perfectly willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with people they absolutely abhor, for the purpose of getting a candidate- and ideology- they want, in power.
Next time you look at “them” and talk about how conservatism would be so much better if “they” weren’t around, think about how much more powerful you could be if you could swallow your revulsion and stand shoulder to shoulder with “them”.
And remember that to “them, you’re “them” too. The left has taught you to fight with people who should be your allies, and allows those who are really your enemies to grab the reins of power with almost no resistance. You might not want to stand next to the Log Cabin Republicans. Or Jim Zumbo. Or “those dumbass evangelical christians”. But they are your strongest allies, in a group. Shut the fuck up, and start working together, and defy those who would drive wedges between brother and brother.

Dick, I forgive Og for his embellishments of our little discussion, as I am sure you would too were he — as a matter of amusement to himself — to mischaracterize your specific complaints about Bush as “he is the cause of all the trouble we have today.” Maybe he thinks that by frustrating me I will write more as he had been trying to get me to do.
I figure that if I can’t get my buddy to work with me, how the hell am I going to get strangers to do so? So I write less and not more.
As to his other comments, I couldn’t agree more. I often quote Tocqueville on the matter: A despot easily forgives his subjects for not loving him, provided they do not love each other. Which is to say Og’s observation isn’t new, he simply has narrowed the seeded internecine warfare to conservatives.
See, there is another observation I’ve passed along to Og over the years with which he agrees. That is that conservatives and the soft-headed liberals (not Leftists) have more in common with each other than do with most politicians who claim to represent the interests of both. Individuals from both camps want to be left alone, but for different reasons, but the power-seekers need to make it appear that each group is endangered by the others but for them. And thus we are back to Tocqueville’s observation. QED

The above paradigm is REAL. There was a time when I couldn’t believe that someone was capable of such subtle undermining but I know better now. I have an individual at my workplace who strives to break up friendships and keep everyone at each others throats. You would think that people would be able to identify and ostracize such an individual but sometimes you can’t. Being a VERY charming person, he could charm coconuts from a monkey.
Why does he do this? Profit and personal gain. Getting friends fighting each other, he has played the middleman in the many conflicts and profited in a variety of ways. Its only after 15 years of this kind of behavior that our little group is figuring out collectively what his game is. One thing for certain is that when he is on vacation, the place does brighten up and people treat each other more decently. Yet he is soooo chaming and ‘entertaining’.
I know this is somewhat vague and you may be wondering why I am saying this. I say it from a microcosmic level – at the jobsite, among individuals. This also applies to the macrocosmic too. We need to stick together. Determine what is really important and what is petty.
…And know your enemy.
The first step in knowing who’s your enemy is realizing when you are being attacked. In politics and idealogical concepts, that is very difficult.
Here’s the big difference:
Progressives have absolutely NO qualms about lying right to your face. That allows them and their candidates to espouse moderate or perhaps even right of center ideology when they are REALLY Marxist. That way their supporters KNOW that they are really Marxists and it allows them to dupe average voters. Add in the fact that the MSM is in their hip pocket and they know they can get away with the supterfuge.
Conservatives on the other hand, not nearly as easy with a bald-face lie, can’t get away with a candidate who espouses left-wing ideology in public but is REALLY a right-winger deep down. It doesn’t work that way. Also, the MSM will rip that candidate to shreds buy bringing up past events in that persons life to try to “prove” he’s not REALLY a moderate. They will “Bork” him.
See the difference?
Progressives have to lie to get elected or they will go down in flames. Average voters will not knowingly vote for a Progressive who tells them what he will REALLY do once in office.

It isn’t just conservatives the Leftists want to atomize, they want to make everyone a solitary individual, powerless against the state. So much easier to haul them off to the Gulag that way.
Oh, and I think it is the divisions and schisms in Christianity that have hindered the defense in the War Against Civilization. And I include European style socialism here as it seems to take its values from a sort of sissified idea of Christian charity, doing good for those less fortunatebut without the moral instruction that keeps such a position from bankrupting a nation economically and morally. Europe has been coasting on a sort of residual Christian morality for more than a century, essentially using up its moral bank account without replacing it (I know I need to explain this, but I haven’t got the time today).
