Fuck you, Robert Bosch.
No, really, fuck you. Fuck your horse, the one you rode in on. Fuck the horse. Fuck your family, and all the people that work for all of them, in all their divisions.
The first 120,000 miles in the truck, it had it’s original Motorcraft Platinum plugs. The second 130,000, motorcrafts. At the end of that I went to get plugs, they were out of motorcraft. So I put in bosch.
Last weekend, on the way back from Michigan, I start to have driveability issues, and it finall7y got to the point tuesday where it ran so badly I parked it and ran Van Til.
So today i swapped out the plugs. The Bosch plugs were so hosed up I’m disgusted. The electrode deposits were what I’d consider normal- but the towers were nasty and cracked, and one of the tops had even unscrewed. Fucktards. Anyway the exploder is back on it’s feet, and the Van will get to rest again, God love it for bailing me out in my time of need.

Bosch sparkplugs have always sucked. I always use the OEM replacements.
Hi all~ at one time Bosch used to make the best plug on the planet. I used to run them in the skidoos and the outboards because they would fire under the worst conditions.
In the 80’s I went to the NGK plugs because Bosch just didn’t seem to be cutting the mustrd any more. I have run them in my aircraft engines as well.
Good to have my baby back, is all I can say.
Well, hell, I think I replaced my originals with Bosch, and it’s started having odd misses. I guess I need to get those things replaced.
Happily, on this truck it’s a lot easier to get to all of them than my previous.
Sounds like they were too hot.
Yeah, Bosch sucks. NGKs rock!!
Correct heat range, Noel, just crap.
Next up, Og rants about Fram oilfilters. :)
Holy smokes, boss! 260k miles on *two* sets of plugs???
I pulled the plugs out of my turbo Cruiser last month at 50k — bought it at 25k and DPO claimed it’d had a tune-up just prior to sale. Gap was somewhere north of 0.075″, and they looked like they really were original OEM Champions.
No wonder I was getting misses at idle and odd part-throttle surges. I don’t think there would’ve been any electrodes left by 75k, let alone 120k.
Odd, I’ve never had a problem using Bosch electrical components. But then, most of the time I’ve used them was on a 1970 Beetle. Maybe it’s a German thing?
NGK all the way.
My Dad has a rule to fit Japanese plugs to japanese cars, german plugs for the germans and champions for any english/us cars but since he now has a volvo he has become a sworn NGK fan like me.
Ham, a proper-heat range set of platinum plugs should last at LEAST 100,000 miles. The two sets of Motorcrafts I’ve had in the truck, I could have re-gapped and reinstalled. Next time around the block I may use NGK, but I’m happy to have the Motorcrafts back in, I’ll tell you.
Because of labor costs a lot of German companies have outsourced their stuff.
Bosch spark plugs may be produced in former Soviet Canuckistan for all I know.
a good word to the wise, toad
