Wow, at least it’s humid too!
Hotter here than the hubs of hell. Maybe my tomatoes will do some growing.
In other news the sploder shit an AC clutch. Have it most of the way back in but resisted the urge to finish it last night at post midnight, preferring to do the final touches when I’m a bit fresher. So I’m driving the van, because it’s running fine and has extra cold AC.

You’re right. The sploder is slowly and surely dying.
I only have to make it last until the wife’s car is paid off, which is 14 months. I can do that standing on my head. THe nickel and dime stuff kills me, for sure, but it’s still a lot cheaper than a car payment. if it gets to the point where it eats somehting to expensive, I’ll just park it and drive the van until it’s time.
Sucks, for sure, but it’s better than another payment, right now.
I’ve hired a few Yankees and one of the first questions I ask is if they have air conditioning in their car. They always respond “no” and that they “don’t need AC” in their car. I then ask if they’ve ever experienced summer in South Carolina. When they say “no” again… I just smile.
Every one of them has traded cars in July. They just have NO idea what they’re in for.
I won’t buy a car without air conditioning. It gets surprisingly hot here in the south Chicago suburbs. (“Surprising”, that is, to anyone who has never lived here.)
Og, I feel your pain. I wasn’t aware that Ford fit a “critical need detector” to their hardware. I’ll have to watch out for the Escort, I guess.
ive been to south africa and zambia in the height of the hot season. no question northwest indiana/south chicago summers are worse.
HHhhmmm.
May I ask how hot is hot? I’m just curious here… is the humidity high too?
96.8 with 58% humidity. Of course it’s cooled off a lot.
There was a perky little gal on the Weather Channel last night, who was explaining “The Heat Index”, and how humidity combined with high temp actually made it “feel” hotter then the actual temperature.
And yes, here in the Midwest(about 90-100 miles west of Chicago), when you get near or above 90 degrees, with a humidity factor of 50% or higher … about all you can do is get nekked and drink beer. Which may not cool you off, but after a six pack or three…you no longer care.
You know how to put a new clutch in? Need to do that on a unit I took of the Blazer. The junk yard one squeals so I figure might as well rebuild the old unit. Needs clutch and seal, not quite sure how to do that. The junk yard one is working so I’ve got a little time.
It’s actually not too hard. Just time consuming. Easier to take the compressor out and do it on the bench. Which, of course, I did not do.
I might have saved myself some trouble using the old magnet, but I had a new one, so why not?
Part of my income comes from light duty outdoor work. I started prep for the first of four jobs today at 9 a.m. My gallon Igloo was empty after Job 2, but I said f**k it and decided to man up and hammer the last two sans water, like people did in grandpa’s day. Near the end of Job 3, about 5 p.m., I ralphed a ton of yellow bile into the customer’s front yard, which luckily just absorbed straight down and disappeared. Once that hallmark comes, I know that the same yellow bile from the other end is not far behind, so I zoom straight home and make it in time. Mind you, a third of the day was in the shade of a summer squall that thundered but didn’t rain, and one job was under a bunch of wonderful shady oaks.
We had early spring weather (chilly and damp) until this week, so there was no acclimation. Once it stays this way, I recover and bear it better. The Slav wasn’t bred for this heat.
Now wasn’t that the best description of the Midwest heat?
mts, funny thing is that same effect happens when you “attend” boot came in August (NRTTC Great Lakes). And it’s “requested” that you do push-ups until the Company Commander is tired. Lots of technicolor heaving going on, there was.
