I am in for all of them, except for the blackpowder stuff. I may try to find a substitute for those and submit anyway.
Thanks Og. Link to follow.
Og,
I’m in for all the centerfire handguns (except possibly the scope/laser sight one) and the .22 rifle/pistols (I REALLY hope my Hi-Standard is back from the ‘smith by then…)
If I can get on an outdoor range, I’ll go in for some of the centerfire rifle and the shotgun as well.
Putting my blog money where my blog mouth is
Og the Neanderpundit has posted the 2005 Postal Match schedule. For those who didn’t play last year, this is where the match organizer, in this case Og, gives you an shooting assignment for to complete. Once done, you email him…
Question:on the rifle stuff, which are offhand, which can be shot from bench?
Just to be sure.
Are you going to have a quick link to this? It would come in useful. Thanks!
Any chance of allowing red dot sights (no magnification) in the iron sight handgun contests? It would allow us old guys with really bad eyesight (prysbiopia) to compete. It could be argued that a red dot sight allows faster target acquisition, but since none of these are timed, there’s no real advantage. It would still boil down to steadiness of hold and trigger pull.
Have to get a judgement on the Red Dot. Only the high power 275 yard is benchrest, unless i get a lot of other folks who want more.
For the upcoming May 7 .22 pistol match, when you say “in or touching the ring”, by “ring” do you mean the larger black circle, or the center black dot?
the outer ring. This is a tough shot, even the outer ring will be hard to hit.
I seem to get different sizes of target depending on which program/printer combo I use when printing the target for the May 7 pistol match. What is the correct diameter for the outer ring?
What about 777 and Powerbelts are they allowed?
I’ll be in for several (found the link at the NoR forum). Don’t have the hardware for all of ’em unless I rent, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have time to do the May 7 and July 16 matches, maybe others.
Mike G: I go by the center wehich is supposed to be 1/2″.
Riprip, I think the powerbelt and 777 is fine. I don’t think that enhances accuracy in any appreciable way.
Og,
Would you double check the dots12.gif target for the May 7 pistol shoot for me? The rifle target for May 7th has a 1/2″ center, but the pistol target won’t fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 page if you enlarge it to get a 1/2″ center dot. At full page the center dot is only about 1/4″. Thanks!
Just so I’m clear: Are we to scan and e-mail the shot targets, or do we need to send them surface mail? If so, where?
I’m in for all of them except for the Shotgun Slug round and the blackpowder stuff.
Thanks for running this again!
No need to scan in and mail, just score and send the score.
Mike:Yep, now I look it’s more like 1/4″.
I’d err on the side of caution, and print them as big as you can get them on 8.5×11- the tiny difference in scale is unlikely to increase your score in any way i can see.
I’m pleased to see how much traffic this is getting. Did you submit it to carnival of cordite?
In fact, i did not. I should probably do that, neh?
Can’t hurt.
While your ruling on the red dot sights on pistols counting as iron sights, I need you to consider the same thing for the shotgun slug match. My S-12 has an Armson dot sight on it. No magnification & requires both eyes open.
I’ll buy that, John.
To which email address should we send our scores?
Wow, this looks really, really fun! I’m interested in doing some of these, but I’d need to learn a little more about the shooting requirements – My range is weird about offhand, standing, or prone. I guess I could just go and join the Colorado Rifle Club… :@)
You’ll probably be getting some targets from me…

I got me some new weaponry that I have to get sighted in today. I’ll be meeting a co-worker and, after a dry range spell, Mollbot for a goodly portion of sending the projectiles flying. We’ll also be taking part…

Heya Og, just wondering about the open sight portion of the July 2nd match. How many shots at 50yds?
I wanna see how well the new M16A1 style sight works on my SKS, so I’ll be using that.
Also, I’ll be doing my shotgun slugs at 50yds. My local range won’t let me set the targets any closer so I figured I might as well use my new 1187 with the EOTech holosight on it.
