How can it be
that I cannot find a 3/8″ drive ratchet? It is clear that I own at least twelve of them.
Oh, I know there’s one in the car, but it’s part of a kit I use for work and won’t break. There’s at least one in the shed too, but it’s in the tractor emergency kit and that’s it’s permanent home. There should be at least eight in the big toolbox.

I’m guessing that’s why you have those eight to begin with. Several times in the past, they have all run off and hide (lest they have to do some productive work or something), and you’ve had to go buy YET ANOTHER one.
At some point in these peregrinations, I usually surrender to the inevitable. The time you waste looking is worth more than the cost of buying a ninth ratchet.

Very simple, the reason you can’t find one is that you need one. Once you break down and 1) buy a new one 2) use a 1/2″ with an adapter or 3) use one of the ones from y0ur car or tractor all eight will come out of hiding.
My dad, father of eight little deniers of knowledge of the whereabouts of said 3/8″ ratchet would state, “I guess it grew legs and walked away.”
You might want to check into that.
All eight ratchets are at the VERY BOTTOM of your biggest, messiest toolbox. Any tool I need right freaking now will be found buried at the maximum depth of my toolbox beneath many sharp, heavy objects.
You’re welcome.
Heh, while growing up my father would blame the kids when his tools went missing. When I got old enough to buy my own sets of tools I wound up blaming him when they took off. Now he’s passed and I no one but myself to blame. :P
I have six or seven of em and just maybe I know how to find one of them right now.
3/8’s you say. Seems I had it an hour ago or so…..
Thye all moved downto the bottom drawer when you started sorting and matching with the sockets.
When you took a break for a cold one and didn’t come back soon they just decided to camp out together and visit.

The Oglet needed a hammer to put two posters up in her room.
Each time she set one down, she couldn’t find it again and had to go get another one.
