All new parts in the front end
and the exploder still has a bit of a wobble at about 75. Annoys the hell out of me.
And then I realize I last replaced the shocks in 2004. They have 180,000 miles on them.
They’re free, of course, because they were AutoZone. So I swap ’em out tonight- well, the fronts. I’ll do the backs tomorrow. The old shocks are worthless as teats on a boar hog. Might as well have had a stoat bolted to the frame on each side.
Update: What a DIFFERENCE a shock makes.

Man the mind pictures you paint Og! Brilliant!
LOL “Might as well have had a stoat bolted to the frame on each side.”
Welcome to the inside of my head. Wipe your muddy feet!
Now if it were myself I could have said meerkats instead of stoats. They have the same general body shape. :-)
180 000 miles is a long way for shocks… of course on our roads one is lucky to achieve 100 000 Kilometers on a set, more likely 30 000K! We do not count the mile/kilo markers, we count potholes or on some roads… patches of asphalt!
Rob, when i was in Zambia, there were times i could look out the window of the Hilux and see dirt- because we were THAT DEEP in a POTHOLE.
Shocks do make a difference. I found rotating the tires on the blazer (210k and counting) solved a whole lot of ills.
It is the littke things that count.
Sir:
Please quit reminding me of all the shit I have to do to my Blazer.
Velocidude, you’d be a long time wrenching to turn your Blazer into an Explorer. /snark
Serioiusly though, just do one small bit at a time. Set of brakes here, pair o’ shocks there.
My ’97 Crown Vic seems to have come down with a sudden malady of window regulator problems. That’s one for my mechanic. Not ’cause it’s complex, but because he’s Amazingly, blindingly fast. And good, and yes, cheap, too. Pays to have a good friend for a mechanic.
Sure wish he could wrench it into an ’06 Vic though. That’d be a neat trick!

Glad you took that one Jim, I thought he was rferring to me.
Jim,
The one Exploder I DO own is sitting idle at a gas station in Florida, waiting for its THIRD transmission. Not worth fixing, not even worth junking. Not from where I’m sitting.
I forgot that you had been up north of us… :-)
The worst roads in Africa are in any rainy season… they usually turn into mudbaths without the wrestling chicks…
