Hey
Y’all have enriched my life over the years, and I appreciate it. I hope I have touched some of you.
Mike Medved spent a lot of wednesday reminding us all how Jesus wasn’t born on Dec. 25. Big deal.
I wasn’t born on a sunday, either, but we usually have birthdays on sundays so we can enjoy the day together. I don’t know for sure when Jesus was born, but I know when we celebrate it. And I could give a shit that it was timed to coincide with other “Pagan” holidays. I know what I’m celebrating, everyone else can piss up a rope.
Thanks for the readership and the comments and the support, and yes, even the bickering and annoyance.
Merry Christmas!

I figure attitude is more important than whether you believe or not.
Merry Christmas, Og.
My best friend is Wiccan, so our holidays fall 4 days apart. We get two holidays to celebrate instead of one!
I’m personally very happy with the idea of celebrating the birth of Jesus at the same time as celebrating the return of the Sun to the world. I don’t care if the date is off; during the darkest time of the year is when we need the reminder the most.
Dec 25th is just a date on the calendar. It just so happens to be the one that was decided to celebrate the birth of Christ.
One thing is for certain, is that very arbitrary moment in time sure does bring out the best in alot of people.
Case in point: There’s been a guy who has hacked at me for 15 years at my work. Not just hacked, taken a serious interest in whatever it takes to get me to lose my job (when I am not present). Day in and day out where it got so bad my supervisor thank me for finally telling him my side of things because the ‘constant barrage’ he would hear got him to really wonder what was going on. (anyone paying attention would have noticed the occasional reference here).
Wednesday morning he came to me and wished me a Merry Christmas. Non-plused and wary, I returned the greeting. He continued on to say that maybe we got off on the wrong foot 15 years ago and he would like to put an end to this problem that is between us (never mind the fact that this was a one sided deal to begin with – his side) and that he would like to work out a peace.
Unbelievable. 15 years.
Chrismas Spirit on the arbitrary date of Dec 25th? Perhaps we need to have more of these ‘fake’ holidays out there.
Mery Christmas everyone! …and for the pendantic unbelievers: a Very Merry Unbirthday to Christ!

Ayup. My best to Og and clan.
Merry Christmas to the Og family.
Not one to join in the debate twixt those who believe scripture to be historic myth and those who stand strong on Fundamentalist precepts, I know my “religion” is not necessarily the foundation of my belief. That would be a personal relationship with the resurrected Christ.
And it is HIS birth, and the inherent promise for all mankind, that we who profess the Christian faith celebrate every 25th of December.
Merry Christmas one and all.
BTW….I am preparing to create a Bambi Wellington. Thanks to og for the idea and basic recipe.
HI Og,
A happy and merry Christmas to you and the other Og’s.
There’s emperors and pharaohs whose birth date isn’t known. Back then, no one cared when you were born: you were there, it’s obvious, so why commemorate that? Once birthdays became popular, they had to make a date for His. They figured He was conceived (entered human flesh through the Annunciation) on the same day He died, the 25th of March. Nine months later you got the 25th of December.
The only worthwhile feast was Easter for the longest time, but once heresies kept denying the humanity of Christ, Christmas all of a sudden got a push. Much of what the Church does is a reaction to someone going off on a tangent, and them having to have an example in response.
Merry Christmas, Og!
When ever the birth, it was momentous. Have a happy Christmas, Og, and a properous New Year.

The pagan date theory is specious reasoning, at best.
Hmmm, I posted before but it didn’t seem to take. Merry Christmas Og and family!
Merry Christmas to you and yours too, Sir!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Maybe we’ll get to see you a bit more this coming year.
