Man you think those glocktards are bad
stick your nose in at any double rifle forum and read the comments.
If you’re not shouldering a Heym, or a Chapuis, you just don’t have a double. And really, why bother to own one unless it’s a Purdey or H&H?
I had no idea that doubles were about snobbery. Here all these years I thought it was about quickly putting two large holes in something approaching rather quickly.

Hi all~
The expansive double rifle costing more than your car is a hallmark of the snob and titled rich.
I would throw that one right back at em. Real hunters have no need for repeaters and can do just fine with single shots! Ha ha ha!
The only time I cared about what the other guy was shooting was when I was getting spanked by them at the r ifle competitions and turkey shoots.
Hahaha you should read the Mosin-Nagant forums some time. They manage to get snobby about rifles you can buy for $100.
God help you if you replace Comrade Stalin’s stock with a plastic one. I was seriously tempted to buy one and rig it with a bottle opener and iPod clip and post pictures just to watch the riot :)
Love my doubles….
– Browning Citori field grade 12 ga. over/under, 26 in. barrels, screw chokes. I have shot more birds than I care to count, doves to geese, and a couple of Rio Grande turkey. AND…it looks like it, scarred and in need of rebluing.
– Baker Standard field grade 12 ga. side by side, 32 in. barrels.
It was my great-uncle’s waterfowl gun. Made in the ’20’s, it is mostly hand made inside the side lock. The stock has been broken and repaired badly. The splinter forend needs to be replace. However, it is delight to shoulder and shoot.
I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating high-end doubles ( http://doublegunshop.com/doublegunjournal.htm )….the metalworking and woodworking, impeccable, stunning.
Its sad that so many of them are relegated to museum status and are never or infrequently used for their intended purpose.
As for other guns…some might call me a wheel gun and bolt action snob. I appreciate semi-autos, both pistols and rifles and what they can do. I am simply comfortable with my revolvers and bolt action rifles, which are few in number.
“Beware the man who carries only one gun…He probably knows how to use it.
It’s Commander McBragg Syndrome, “I was traveling down the Zambezi river one day when we were suddenly set-upon by wild Savages…” They’re probably wearing Jodhpurs and a pith helmet. My Theory: Big Doubles are the Steampunk of gunnery and attract a certain following.
Many moons ago I bought the Lintwife a Citori to shoot birds with. I used it a couple times and it is DEADLY on birds. Every time I had a hunt scheduled I’d ask her if she could attend and when she replied in the affirmative I would smile and say “Great” but inside I was cussing because that meant I wouldn’t be able to use the Citori.
Last year before dove season I said “Fuck that” and sauntered into a local gunshop and told the attendant to give me the cheapest twelve gauge Citori he had. It’s an ugly beast but I went 15 for 18 on opening day.
I dreamed sweet dreams that night.
Libsarenavelint,
“It’s an ugly beast but I went 15 for 18 on opening day.”
A heavy beast, yes… and deadly. Ummmm, ugly is in the eye of the beholder. My old beater had damage to the fore, round grip and shoulder stock when shipped from the supplier. I purchased it for less than wholesale.
I love that gun. Dunno what I will do when the arthritis and ravages of old age make it too much to handle.
Might go with a 20 ga. or get real snooty and buy a 28.
Hope you and the Missus Lint. have years of sweet dreams!
Hell, Og, there’re people who get uppity about the size of their Beanie Baby collection, and their pen collection, and their…
And what does that say about my desire for a drilling?
