yeah, Anarchy is where it’s at.
Dick first pointed this out, and I can’t but agree with what he’s saying.
The Haitians are in a world of shit. And the looting has begun; the police are powerless to do anything, and bandits roam the street.
Whatever you want Anarchy to be, whatever your feelings about it are, this is what Anarchy is.
Pray that these people are restored to the rule of law as soon as possible.

Very true. I heard today the government down there was complaining because we haven’t done enough, quick enough. Makes you just all warm inside for them nice folks, don’t it?
Let the French handle it. Haiti’s mostly their fault anyway.
They haven’t had Rule of Law, ever. Papa and Baby Doc, Ton Ton Moucoutes (sp?), all the way back past L’Overture to the original French. Rule of Strong Man and the Voodoo. Look at all those freaking machetes! They didn’t come with the MRE’s and C.A.R.E. packages! When the Japanese endure their earthquakes and hurricanes, they suffer greatly too, but you don’t see this crap.
A lot of people around me are all in a donating or volunteering mood, while I silently sat back. If I thought my donation would be honestly spent on relief, I’d have no reservations. But we all know it’ll end up like the food relief projects in 1980’s Ethiopia and 1990’s Somalia – mismanaged, rotting on a ship offshore, and what little gets in will be scarfed up by the thugs in charge, with the needy in their usual fubar position. It may be mean to say, but other than the immediate death and injury to those in collapsed buildings, the earthquake didn’t have much effect on the usual Haitian day – the place was already a horrid mess. Haiti is but a small bit of Hispaniola – any word on how the Dominicans are handling what they experienced of this earthquake?
My heart may go out to them, but my head says help the local food bank, for in this recession they’re pressed to keep up, and I know a couple of the local parish ones, and they are honest and the food goes to those truly in need, with no one making coin as a C.E.O. or any of that.
If there was a nation to go on a nation building mission with, it would be Haiti. Trouble is, the ones who’d be all into that would be community organizers from South Chicago, Gary, Detroit, East St. Louis.
“They haven’t had Rule of Law, ever”
Precisely. That is why I said, pray for that, because that is what they need, more than anything- it’s the only thing that will help them become more than just a nation of victims.
Anarchy is too simple to have never been tried in prehistory. Not a single anarchist society made it to history. None exist today. Anarchy dies the moment two people decide to give each other mutual support and make rules about how to do it.
Chaos, by the way, is not anarchy.
“Chaos, by the way, is not anarchy.”
No. Not for the first fifteen minutes, or so.
