Funshow!
Went to the Porter County gunshow this AM; it’s one of the better shows in the area and we try to hit it each year.
Saw a few nice things, including a guy walking around with a perfect condition LeFever Nitro Special in 410. Case colors all good, no reblue, 95% or better blue on the barrels, perfect bore. Wanted $1200 I don’t have. But it was a beautiful shotgun nonetheless.
Lots of ammo. Prices going way down on black guns. No 30 carbine anywhere, but that’s getting cheaper elsewhere, so.
On the way back we did the normal gunshow run, and caught a guy dropping off a Colt AR-15 SP1, in mostly original condition. Partner is in the mood for one of these, and the price may be right, so they’re going to call him if someone inside the shop doesn’t want it. They may. We spoke to the original owner, who took care of it.
Me, I think I’d rather have a gun with an assist, but partner is into collecting, so this is a natural for him.
me, I was looking hard at the cheap lowers, and now I’m seeing complete firearms for under six hundred, so maybe I should look more at the full firearms.

Drove up to the gravel pit this AM with my dog and my M1 Carbine. After I’d been there a while, a couple of nice kids showed up with a pair of black rifles with fifteen pounds of accessories on each of ’em. They walked down to the target frames and put up their targets and changed mine. (Tolja they was nice kids.) Then proceeded to fire off about a hundred rounds each, making their targets look like they’d been hit with shotguns. I fired three 15 rd mags of cast bullets at my target putting all 45 rounds in the 12″ bull offhand. Impressed the crap out of the kids (and surprised the crap out of me). They wanted to know how I did it. I told ’em to pull all the accessories and crap off their rifles and sell ’em. Take the money and buy a handloading book, a Lee turret press, dies, and components. Then shoot about 200 rounds a week for fifteen or twenty years, keeping accurate notes about what worked and what didn’t instead of buying more and more expensive shit to screw onto their rifles trying to make up for non existent skills. A $300 scope will not make you a better shooter, just poorer. $300 worth of ammo will help.
My old Inland Carbine just pops the rounds where I point it, same as it has since ’64, when I got it. The only accessories I own are the sling and oiler and a mag. pouch that I sometimes put on the stock, just ’cause it looks cool. That old carbine and I have shot so many rounds together that I don’t even have to aim any more, the rifle does that for me. All I need to do is look through the sights and holes happen where I looked. I have several rifles like that. They’re like good friends, we’re comfortable with each other and don’t need to talk much any more. I just slide the rounds into the mag, work the actions and holes appear downrange. If for some reason, I had to keep only two rifles, they’d probably be the M1 Carbine and the M92 Krag sporter. I’d cry over the others, but those two will do what needs done.

Todays email from the CMP, they have the Aguila 30 carbine back in stock. About $210 for 500 rounds delivered.
Had one (an M16, not 15) without a forward assist.
It was a floppy Turd, with a capitol T that was built by GM, but I could understand the collector’s notion.
And ya didn’t stop by the 3partsupply.com booth and say hi?
Ya gotta see the new 2 oz dispensers the just ame out withy for Strike-Hold.
cool stuff for a range bag.
Mr B, not only did we stop by but we waited around for about five minutes.
You were dealing with paying customers, however, and we did not want to intrude.
OOps…sorry. I DO tend to get focused on the person in front of me.
Would have liked to have said “hi” at least.
Next time.
When it warms up we ggotta get together at a range.
Hope that is soon.
hey, it’s your gig, and we want you to be successful at it, not hobnob with non-buyers.
