Ever see a grown man naked?
Peter Graves died sunday. One of my heroes as a kid as Mr Phelps, clearly one of the coolest men alive.
His earliest work such as the spy in Stalag 17, was impressive to say the least. The later stuff showed he could take himself less seriously, and he was funny.
My sister’s church had a priest who looked very much like him, and I always envisioned him saying ‘Ever see a grown man naked, joey?” I often felt moved to ask him if he liked movies about Gladiators but the chance never presented itself.
For the longest time I confused graves and leslie Nielsen. Not their names, but their personalities. Nielsen was incredible and had a marvelous range, from Forbidden Planet to Kung Fu, to.. well, to Airplane.
At least I don’t have to confuse them anymore.

Wait, Peter Graves was Price? Dang. I’m going to have to watch that again. *like I needed an excuse … *
His older brother is still alive and kicking.
I think the Airplane scenes with Graves were so funny because he had played the humorless Jim Phelps on Mission Impossible for so many years prior.
The confusion thing. I just recently said the same thing about the two Coreys. Now that one is dead it alleviates the confusion.
Jerry, I think you’re right. There was another element too.
Graves costarred in the Saturday morning TV show (competing with the toons) “Fury.” It had plot lines pretty similar to “Lassie,” with Graves essentially playing the male equivalent of June Lockhart.
I find it funny that in all the press releases about Graves, I never saw this other role mentioned.
