Paging Dorothy Lewis!
or her sister Brenda.
Apparently, whoever the Lewises are, they have been receiving my Dish Network Bills.
I spent a little time on the phone talking to them about it tonight. 45 minutes, to be exact.
40 minutes talking to Sharon. She typed in a lot of information, looked at my account, and came to the conclusion about ten minutes in, that I needed the help of her shift supervisor, who was making the rounds of other people whose problems could only be resolved by a shift supervisor.
So Sharon stalled me for 30 (relatively pleseant minutes) before handing me off to Elisabeth (not her real name either) who said, and I quote:
“Are joo suure you doan no anyone named Dorotee?”
“yes, I’m sure”
“Does jour wife know anyone named forotee?”
“No, she says she doesn’t”
“Do joo rent part of jour house to anyone named dorotee?”
“No, I don’t rent any part of my house”
“Does jour wife rant part of jour house?”
“No, we don’t have a large house, and there are no rental apartments here”
“maybe jour wife rented a room to someone named dorotee”
“no, I’m sure she would have told me.”
“Maybe she was afraid. Could joo ask her?”
So I pretend asked the wife. “No, she did not rent any part of the house to anyone named dorothy, or anyone named lewis, or anyone at all”
“Could joo look and see if there is anyone there?”
I wish I were making this up.
Anyway, this took four minutes. The last minute, I spoke to Bianca. She looked at my account, couldn’t figure how it happened, and assured me she would resolve it.
Then, a half hour later, I get an email confirming the account change. At my email, header “Dorothy Lewis”
Fine, so long as they keep sending the bill to whoever she is. Better if she pays it.

I laughed. I’m truly sorry you had to endure that, but I laughed. That idiot sounds like another idiot who works in MY company!
In every call center, there are so many people like Sharon, who are helpful and pleseant, and a few total nimrods. Usually, I get the nimrods. Sharon was a nice surprise. Elisabeth was what I expected.
I’m Dorotee. You pay you own goddam bill!
Pocking Bastich.
My beloved worked in a call center. Her supervisor’s name was, as God is my witness, “Latrine’a” Yes she is black. Yes, she is an affirmative action hire, yes she is as stupid as a hemlock stump*. She is now about 28 years old, and a grandmother. She has never married, nor have any of her horribly fecund offspring.
*May innocent and unoffending hemlock stumps everywhere forgive the analogy.

She is now about 28 years old, and a grandmother.
That’s two generations in a row that had a kid at 14 (and that’s the best case scenario). Euccchhh.
I’ve heard that at least some of the nonsensical product warnings (“Do not iron shirt while wearing it on your body”, etc) came about because some nimrod somewhere actually performed the foolish act and tried suing the company. I wonder if that series of questions ended up in The Supervisor’s Guide to Problem Resolution because at some point in the past a billing issue came about when some schmuck suddenly realized that, Holy Cow! There’s a guy renting part of my house! How’d THAT happen?
I “fix” office equipment for a living(29 years) and just in the last couple years I have had to deal with HP(haawk spit). The only way we can get warranty coverage on machines we have sold(not little boxes, 8k+ machines) is call the same yahoos in india that you would call if you bought a $50 inkjet. I spend hours with these turkeys before they escalate to a US citizen.
You’ve all the makings of a submission to Consumerist (http://www.consumerist.com) right there. If you can ignore the prevailing hippie-left leanings of the commentariat there, it actually has some fairly useful information.
Try calling anyone at Cal. gov.
Nada, nuttin, hangups, joow mus press 2, etc.
Phucking Phunny. Does Dorotee have a little dog named Toto? Maybe Toto rented the room and is eating the bills. Something tells me you’re not in Kanas anymore.
28 and a GRANDMOTHER? Call centres, unfortunately, have a too, too low barrier to entry.
Good grief.
