The Mediocratization of America
I’m sure, if you have a half of a brain, you’re freaked out by the bullshit going down all over the place, and the utter lack of action on the part of President Pixiedust.
You may be pissed about all of this, but you might just be about to get more pissed.
See, we’ve been, as a nation, Exceptional. We’ve done some dumb shit, but even the dumb shit has, in is own way, been exceptional.
And President pixiedust hates that.
The way he’s treated our friends, the way he’s treated our enemies, the way he’s handled domestic affairs and foreign ones, is not because he is incompetent, for he is not. It is not because he’s inept-he may well be, but his handlers are not.
No, this is all because he, and his handlers, want to show the rest of the planet that we can be mediocre too. “We’re bad friends! We’re stupid enemies! We fuck up the environment! We really are just like you!
Pascal has a piece in which he talks about having our nose rubbed in our mediocrity. You should read it. he almost nevber crapblogs so it’s probably safe over there.

What amazes me is that we’re still exceptional, even with the bamster trying his hardest to stop us.
BP is out there actually trying to accomplish something exceptional. Sure, there is blame to go around, and the CEOs of the various companies involved sound like a bunch of blame-avoiding finger-pointers. But their engineers are actually having some success.
And all the bamster can do is run in circles screaming and shouting. Because the bamster is the Incompetent Man. He doesn’t understand what’s involved in “plugging the hole” — he just yells “plug the hole” like that’s going to solve the problem all by itself. When this is all over, and when it is understood how little of a role the government has had in the fix (other than to jump up and down and scream and shout), he will be tarred with the “worse than Carter” brush.
The rest of us (well, the ones who count) will continue to be exceptional, and continue to prove that more government isn’t the solution; it’s the problem.
Lewis tells the story (I believe in Screwtape) of the king who sent a messenger to a neighboring tyrant, wanting to know the secret of his success. The tyrant took the messenger to a nearby field of grain, and used the tip of his cane to flick the heads off the stalks that stuck up higher than the others.
To which I say, eff that noise.
The fact that an ignorant nincompoop like Trump has a lead of 3 percentages over a veteran Hillary Clinton is a sure sign that there is dumbing down of United States from West to East and North to South.
Modi in India and Imran in Pakistan alsondicate that the phenomenon of medoicratization is world wide.
