Soon, I will be able to sleep again.
The carpal/cubital tunnel is waking me up four or five times a night now. No, I don’t look for the pain to go away, I just expect to get used to it.
Have an appt on the 10th with a guy who must be good, because i made the appointment on the 26th of april. It’s taking that long to get in and see him. I expect him to say “You’re fucked. Deal.” But I’m kind of hoping he can do SOMETHING for me that doesn’t require extensive surgery or goat roping.

I am pretty sure you already know this, but in case you don’t, I’ll tell you:
Naproxen is a great way to deal with muscle pain and inflammation. After throwing my back out lifting things I shouldn’t have, I should know.

Over the counter name for “Naproxen” is “Aleve”. The difference between the the doctors’ prescription vs the over the counter stuff is the dosage/pill.
I’ve taken naproxyn at scrip strength at levels approaching toxicity. Don’t help.
I’ve been on Naproxen for several months for arthritis in general and a torn rotator cuff in particular. It’s middlin’-fair as a painkiller. Nothing to write home about but it generally helps me get around better.
It wasn’t helping last night, though. I’ve pulled something in my lower left abdomen (probably planting the hydrangea on Monday was what did it) and I could NOT get comfortable enough to sleep until about 4AM.
Thanks for the feedback, Og. Sounds like you’ve got a problem on your hands (no pun intended).
Ya, Nathan. fair to middlin is a good way to put it: Doesn’t do anything for me when I have a headache (Ibuprophen seems to work for that).
Still, its worth a try if its never been tried. You never know.
Weed.
That is all.
Muahahahahahaaaa!

Mark: if I thought that would work, I’d already be rolling a spliff the size of a chocolate eclair. Mostly it just makes me giggle and want to set things alight.

Oh God. Hide the children.
I have had rotator cuff tendinitis over a year now, and no amount of naproxen, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin have any effect on it at all. Like Og says, sometimes you just have to learn to live with it.
Try these in this order:
1) 800mg of Ibuprofen four times a day
2) Hydrocodone
3) Oxycodone
4) Man Up
5) Suicide
libsarenavelint might be on to something. Last time I went to the dentist for a major overhaul she had me taking 800mg of ibuprofen and augmenting that with tylenol as needed. The literature she gave me claimed that the combination of ibuprofen and tylenol was as effective at killing pain as many narcotics. FWIW.
It’s gonna involve goats and chickens. I just know it.
Yeah, I’ve mixed medicines with mixed results. I have to stay the hell away from the narcotics, I hate the withdrawal. I just hope the guy can give me something to do that will tone it down some. I don’t mind pain, I’m used to it.
The witch doctor team wanted to slice my wrists open like gutting a chicken at a voodoo sacrifice. After getting them to admit it had about a 50/50 chance of relieving pain for maybe a year, with a 60-90 day recovery time after the surgery, I told them to go pound sand.
CP is caused by a swelling of a tendon ring through which the nerve bundle goes to the hand. Anything that aggravates that tendon makes it swell, and you can kiss un-drugged sleep goodbye. You know about the pain, I don’t have to tell you anything about it.
I dealt with mine by a battery of efforts: Daily low dose NSAIDS to cut the swelling, sleeping with splints on for a month to keep the wrists straight, giving up 75% of whacking things with hammers and using impact gloves for the other 25%.
That was 15 years ago, and I licked it in two months…. or just about how long the ^%$#@$% doc said it would take to get over the surgery. Since then, just whispers of it when I get stupid and start whacking stuff in dumb ways.
Og, ask your Doc if he’s familiar with the Brown System.
http://www.brownhandcenter.com
“The Brown Procedure is our treatment of choice, safely and easily performed on an outpatient basis. A small 9mm incision (less than ½â€) is made very near the wrist and a tiny 4mm (less than ¼â€) incision is made in the palm. The instrumentation is inserted, isolating the transverse carpal ligament from the contents of the carpal tunnel. The ligament is then divided with endoscopic visualization as the surgeon watches the video monitor and the surgeon’s assistant holds the patient’s hand hyperextended and moves the endoscope.
A long-acting anesthetic is placed in the tiny incisions. This typically eliminates post-operative discomfort, numbing the hand for 4-48 hours after which time pain medication is rarely needed. The wounds are closed with Steri-Strip* adhesive skin closures, not stitches.
During the next seven days, the patient is able to use the hand. After seven days, the dressing and Steri-Strip* closures are removed and patient may use his or her hand without restriction.
After almost 20 years of safety, different from other endoscopic techniques, the Brown Procedure is the basis of the recent studies showing long-term patient safety and effectiveness. Compare the Brown Procedure to open carpal tunnel release – you will see immediate differences and our procedure’s benefits.”
It’s minimally invasive surgery. If you can’t get it done in your neck o’ the woods, I’d think it’d be worth a flight or road trip down to Houston.
I’m an hour and a bit South of the Medical Center, but you’d still be welcome to stay over with Iris and me in the newly (post Ike) renovated abode. For damn sure, you’d be well fed.
Hope the link adds a viable option for your consideration.

yeah, Jim, I just hope my damned insurance pays for it. We’ll see.
Carteach, I know what you mean, but the problem I have is I have no choice but to do a bunch of whacking from time to time, lawnmowing, all that sort of crap. Can’t stop, nobody else to do it but me.
Yeah, Gettin’ old ain’t for pussy’s
Get a bowlers wrist brace.
Take a decent dose of vitamin D everyday. (I take 2000-4000 IU daily.)
If you’re aware of having any food allergies, avoid that item like plague.
I don’t like big doses of any drug either, I’d try getting by on normal dose of tylenol.
Don’t drink. It’s bad juju with tylenol and generally will aggravate any inflammation.
Og:
Go for the surgery! Mrs. B. had both done 12 years ago and has been delighted with the results. Of course, you need a good friend/wife around to wipe yer butt and shake your um, er, unit after using the toilet…
