Hot days, wet nights
When I was in Zambia hunting, we had a crew of support people that saw to our comfort. It wasn’t all the comforts of home, mind you, but we didn’t want for anything major.
We had one major luxury, though. In the middle of the afternoon our camp cook would start up a little generator and plug it into a little freezer, and in the freezer, he’d place a couple sixes of Coke.
African Coke tastes like Kosher for Passover coke, because it’s made with sugar and not corn sweetener. Coming back into camp at the end of a sweaty day and grabbing an icy-cold Coke, possibly one with ice crystals swimming around in it, was pure heaven.
Once in a while, I throw a Kosher coke into the freezer, just to remind me. Yesterday was one of those days, today might well be another.

Og – Look around your area for bottled Coca-Cola made south of the border(Mxico/Honduras) They still make it with sugar down there.
We call ’em Mexican Cokes in Texas and you can buy them anywhere in the state.
Coke with sugar… hmmm…
Og,
I’ve been reading / lurking for a couple years now. You give an very different perspective on things. Plse keep it up.
Interesting that you mention Kosher Coke. Are you a member of The Tribe? Not many Gentile folk are aware of the ‘no corn or corn-based products’ restriction observed during Passover. Thanks for recognizing it.
IIRC, The Heart Attack Grill in Arizona also serves full-sugar Coke which they import from Mexico as opposed to the corn-syrup based stuff.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
Thx,

“Are you a member of The Tribe?”
Not in the way you mean, no.
I do have a sneaking suspicion that Jesus didn’t show up to create Christianity so much as he did to put the finishing touches on Judaism. So most of my thoughts are flavored by that suspicion.
I know about kosher for passover because I have been the guest at many a seder. And eaten a lot of traditional food from kosher households.
Is there another Coke?
Kees: In the states they sweeten it with corn syrup and a lot of folks think it tastes like ass.
Check out your local Costco. Both the stores in Cincy carry Mexican Coke, and when I’m in the mood for it I pick up a case.
Og,
I’ve been hoarding Pepsi Throwback. Pepsico came out with a limited run of sugar-not-corn-syrup pop and I grabbed a case. However, I should have grabbed 10.
The Marsh at 62nd & Keystone and the Fresh Market at 54th & College both have the Real Thing year ’round. :)
I may have to make a trip once my supply of the Kosher stuff dries up.
I don’t drink a lot, a couple cans a month on the outside.
WiseWay carries Mexican Coke in its (surprise, surprise) Mexican food section. Bottles, not cans. Now you won’t have to wait for Passover.
Yes, true Coca-Cola tastes wonderful, and the corn syrup type tastes worse than Faygo or Sam’s Choice cola.
p.s.: Goose Island Root Beer with real sugar: A+!
