I don’t want to give anyone the impression
that after last weekend my garage is a neat and tidy workshop, suitable for use by master mechanics.
Fact is, I just wanted to be able to see some of the floor- not even all of it. I vacuumed out enough cobwebs to fill the shop-vac to the 1/4 mark (Anyone need 23 lbs of cobwebs?) I scraped out the snakeskins (Big garter snakes slither among my jackstands to shed their skins- I have one skin about three feet long, and nearly 2″ diameter).
The spiders are another thing altogether. I bet I vacuumed two hundred from mite sized to silver dollar sized, and let’s not talk about the centipedes and millipedes.
but, the empty or partially empty spray cans are gone. All the power tools are on their own shelves. All the accessories for the power tools are on their own shelves. The oil, trans fluid, etc. have all gotten their own place, and now I know I have TOO MUCH atf +3 and not enough Mobil One. (anyone got a Chrysler they need some ATF for? doubt I’ll ever use it again)
No, i just straightened out the mess a little, and cleared up a lot of trash that should have been thrown out ages ago, and I still need to finish sorting out sockets.
And that took the better part of a three day weekend.
The fun it just never ends.

Given my own garage situation, I didn’t envision a pristine environment :)
I’ve got not just my own crap, but thirty years of Dad’s accumulated crap from his business to go through. I finally got to the point where I said “enough is enough” and I don’t need to hoard things like old ceramic knob-and-tube wiring accessories and old fan relays for furnaces I don’t own. And I’m starting to fill trash cans with that stuff.
Sooner or later I will see the floor, too :)
Nathan: Post and tube, eh? maybe you should call Greenfield Village in Dearborn michigan, talk to the conservators, see if they need any for the homes there.
We finally got ours cleared out from when I moved in with all of my crap, thanks to a bunch of shelves, but it seems to be creeping in again so all we have is a not-very-wide path through.
Gregarious Loner is trying to get ahold of you, says he encounters spyware at your blog:

Bob
yeah, i contacted him, we’re trying to work out if it’s him or me
Until son is back in the world again and has a place to work on his stuff, and thus can get his crap out of my garage, serious cleaning just ain’t happening.
Nathan, if that stuff’s good still, consider eBay for the smaller, shippable stuff, and maybe the classifieds for the larger. I cleaned out the attic via eBay, and it made me $3000. My aunt kept everything from my uncle’s shuttered AMC dealership, and recently told me she had it junked. I was on her for years to let me sell the parts on eBay motors, and she couldn’t bear to part with it. Parts galore, new in box, no longer made. Dang.
My dad junked a lot of his old parts from offset printing now that he’s pretty much out of it. Lets face it a 30 year old roller with a dry rot rubber outer shell isn’t gonna transfer a nice image… but the old cloth backed unused masters work great when cut down to form shoe inserts for those of us with shoe widths or sizes above ‘behemoth’
Congratulations on the first step. I should be so diligent, I don’t think I’ve seen most of the floor in my garage since we moved in 3 years ago.
Matter of fact, I do have several of these damned Mopars sitting in the driveway which could use the ATF+3 (a couple will only drink of the more expensive ATF+4, natch).
Hit me at the email addy in this comment, and we’ll make a deal (unless USPS/FedEx decides they can’t accept it for shipping).
LOL! Ham, I was only half serious- but if you want it, it’s yours, I think there’s like four or five plastic bottles of +3. It’s the Aamco stuff, so I don’t know if it’s worth a damn. You coming to any blogmeets soon?
heh heh heh…
You know if you put an offer like that out there, some lunatic is gonna come along and try to take you up on it. :-)
I think I have a couple of cases of the AAMCO ATF+3 I bought on clearance a couple of years back. I’ve got a couple of Mopars that I knew wouldn’t be very finicky about whether or not it was true ATF+3 or just Dexron with some additives (some people claim that’s what the AAMCO stuff is, can’t verify or refute this assertion).
Appreciate the offer but it sounds like it would be more trouble than it’s worth to ship…and I’m not much of a social butterfly when it comes to blogmeets.
My wife said ” Either your reloading junk, or me.”
God, I’m gonne miss her.
