Race Day!
Since the age of five, I have missed exactly zero Indy 500’s.
The remembrance of the Veterans; the remembrance of those lying in Flanders Fields, the men on the beach at Iwo Jima whose bodies were never found.
The beginning of summer, the greatest spectacle in auto racing; the only sporting event I ever watch.
Jim Nabors flys in from his Honolulu home to sing My State’s Anthem.
Steaks are marinating, beer is chilled, garlic roasting; I’ve been taking pulls on a bottle of Cockburns ruby port, and it is so great to be alive I cannot describe it.

Wow, I thought Jim Nabors died in like… 1985. Weird.
obviously not an indy fan. Nabors has been doing this every year since jesus wore short pants
Post race comments.
Danica Patrick proved she can run with the big dogs. Fourth is pretty cool. My respects to her and the Letterman/Rahal team.
And congrats to Michael Andretti’s team for the win with Englands Sam Weldon.
Rich
Caught the last 25 laps — despite her trying to be gracious, she was PISSED that came in fourth.
That girl’s going to be back and hunting for BEAR. And I’ll love every minute of it.
At least she finished the race.
