   The new ‘updated’ firefox is less and less compatible with the internet. I gotta find something else.

   IMAO, IE 8 is a great product, no complaints. Chrome has been the primary browser for work and home on multiple machines. Firefox has been removed for quite some time. FWIW

   I got infected by scare ware twice while on a Yahoo message board from a bogus banner ad that I didn’t even click on while using IE 8.

   No problems since switching to Chrome.

   I noticed for a while when I came to Ogville that the ad at the top would throw things at me that I had recently Googled…. “big fucking tits”…. “tight snatch”…. “mega creampie” … etc… I thought that was kinda weird.

   Was it firefox browsers that were having problems with your site?

   I’ve had adblock forever. Must have prevented whatever screwups other people were having because it’s been working fine for me.

   I’m running 3.6.6 with adblock plus – I haven’t had a single issue with this place. Didn’t even know you had ads.

   I went to Firefox because since it was a well designed browser that had a tiny part of the market, there was much less of a chance of getting cooties from it than MSIE. I have Linux on a laptop for the same reason, plus the thing boots up a lot quicker than with a Windows OS. If I didn’t have so many programs designed for Windows on the main, I’d install Linux on it, too.

   But yeah, they’ve trashed Firefox recently, as in the past year. My Linux laptop hangs with unresponsive scripts, and that’s all Firefox’s fault. I just need to find another browser that works with it: Firefox came in the bundle.

   I take my security cues from Borepatch, but I’ve always been a Netscape/Mozilla user since they were down the street here. Being a smaller company, Firefox has a faster response time to patches than MS. Maybe my GunRendezvouser buddy Joe will differ on that, in which case I would take his perspective seriously.
   IE is an inseparable part of the OS and uses Active-X executables which only run in IE and are exploitable.

   ActiveX has a really broken security model. All it does is verify that the ActiveX Control (program) came from a known source. For example, Windows Update uses an ActiveX Control that has been digitally signed by Microsoft – this gives the user some sense that they’re getting it from a trusted source. What they do not know is whether they’re getting trusted code. There can be security bugs in an ActiveX Control, and this happens all the time. Even worse, there’s no easy way to distribute updated controls. Worst of all, any old web site can cause ActiveX controls to be loaded and executed. Vulnerable ActiveX Controls can be downloaded and run, at the web site’s discretion.

   Again, in January 2010 MS released another patch for IE8 “This security update resolves seven privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed vulnerability in Internet Explorer. The more severe vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer.”

   Anyhow that’s how I understand it. Nonstandard HTML and Active-X leads to security issues and MS-Only compatibility problems. [rant] As a graphics-guy I have no reason to use anything that MS produces since they don’t do anything worth a crap in paint or drawing applications, so I don’t have much MS software on my machine. But I do use Windows since in the beginning of my career I could never afford the astronomically high cost of a Mac. Goodness knows I wanted one but Price was an elitist gatekeeper and protectionist barrier to entry for Graphic Designers. I knew several and hated their insufferably snooty attitude which was suffocating around here and worse at StanFurd among the Supremo ArtsyFartsy Eliteweenies. Anyhow I blame freakin’ Steve Jobs and his Reality Distortion Field – asshole bought the house next to a high-school buddy of mine, and he also bought a Miele vacuum cleaner from another friend working retail downtown.[/rant] So as a non-Mac graphic guy I worked mainly with non-Mac Engineers to design stuff like the on-screen TV guide…

   I haven’t had any problems with viewing this site, and I don’t see any ads either but I’m just me.
