I’ll belt you one!
I have been working with a belt I bought at Cabelas for some couple of years now, and it’s gotten to the point where it’s rugged.
On a fat old guy, belts tend to roll readily, and this one was no exception. it was getting to the point where it was almost a rope.
A new Cabelas belt was about $39, and the new weren’t even as nice as the one i had. They’re all made from that bonded leather crap now.
So I went to Tandy on my way home tonight and got a nice piece of 1.750″ Latigo leather, and some sex bolts. I’m tired of halfass belts that fall apart, and now I have one that would have made a nice piece of harness leather. I bolted the belt together instead of sewing it, and used four bolts where most big belts use two. The buckle is a roller that would make a good carabiner. I burnished the edges and put it on.
If they made a holster for a Ma Deuce, this belt would hold it up.

A holstered Ma deuce hangin on yer hip. Now that’s PACKIN!!
How ’bout a picture?
Just Damn!
Why do they call them “sex bolts”?
because they’re male and female.
What finish did you choose? Snow Seal would be a good choice although it would darken the Latigo.
I picked up a “genuine Amish leather belt” at an Indy 1500.
I had no idea that the Amish had such thick hides.
This one’s every bit as sturdy as my well-worn double-thickness Milt Sparks belt. It has 2+ pounds of steel hanging off it every day and has yet to even hint at crumpling or rolling.
I bought one of these a year ago and I’ve been very happy with it.
I’m actually thiking of leaving the latigo alone. I burnished the edges a bit with a piece of deer antler, and I might edge-dye it, but unless it needs a finish to make it last longer I like it fine as is. I didn’t even skive the fold, it’s full thick 8 ounce or better all the way through.
Tam: That Amish leather is tough as nails, but be careful, the belt will start wanting to be worn by other women. before you know it, the belt will have been on Rx, on Brigid, Joanna, and if you take it off outdoors you don’t know what hussy it will be wrapped around next.
I picked up a belt over in Matamora, Indiana (yeah yeah, tourist trap blah blah) years ago that has held up exceptionally well.
nathan: That’s the one I had, but the “two layers” are now “bonded” leather.
Damn, Og. 1.75″ is nearly a weightlifter’s belt. You have belt loops that wide on your belt?
Og, I guess I don’t wear mine quite that tight :)
Nathan. You’ve met me. My belt has to be industrial strength. My pants weigh 300 lbs.

Try the reinforced gun belt. Polymer insert holds the extras without sagging or rolling.
Best belt I ever owned was the bottom part of a WW1-2 Army Sam Brown uniform set.
REAL men in khaki used to wear Sam Brown leather with it.
Side note: next time, try a cop’s “duty pants belt”. They have to be tough enough to take the weight of the average cop’s utility gun belt. Mine weighed 22#, before tasers and THEIR claptrap.
Problem for us heavier people is that the gut done lops over the belt, so you wither have to cinch the belt extra tight, because there are no natural hips for it to ride on, or you have to attach non-stretching suspenders to help spread the load.
I chose suspenders, but am on a weight-loss program that should have me back to having hips by Halloween.
When I get down to hip-size again (25# from now), I’ll have to figure out how I’m going to stay there…
I always did like the Sam brown belts. HTe belt I’m wearing, though, is more like a thresher belt. And i think it’ll do me fine.
