LOTR reloaded
Watching the stories has reminded me how good they were, and how awfully some of the characters were acted. Elijah wood, forinstance, could be more of a pussy, but I can’t imagine how. He spends the whole damned movie looking like he’s about to shit his pants in fear.
The most of the rest of it, however, is pretty damned good. I like to see it again.

That was a great series, and I loved it until I figured out what a libtard Viggo Moretensen turned out to be.
When an actor or other entertainer uses their fame to spout off their political views, I take exception.
Much of ‘merica treats hollyweird people as “important” and the myth then becomes reality. Their public status ensures that their half-baked idiotic political views get exposure.
So I combat that effect the only way I can – economically.
I don’t rent or buy movies or songs with liberal political activists.
Barbara Streisand has a fantastic musical capability, but I’ve never paid one cent towards her, ’cause she’s such a liberal CxxT.
Viggo likewise.
Don’t get me wrong- they’re entitled to their views, and as long as they don’t use their craft to forward a leftist agenda, I will be happy to spend my entertainment dollar to watch / listen.
Liv Tyler makes a very fetching elf. Just sayin.’
On a LOTR jag. Read the trilogy 2x this year, working on a 3rd. Heard the unabridged audio too. Why? Dunno- cos girl w the dragon tattoo sux? Cos I need to read something that takes me away? Cos son n heir needs to know it? All 3.
“Elijah wood…spends the whole damned movie looking like he’s about to shit his pants in fear.”
Not the WHOLE trilogy. You’re forgetting all the times he gives Samwise those loving looks–enough to make you wonder if you are, in fact, not watching “Brokeback Mount Doom”….
Og–never looked at it quite that way, but you’re right! That said, I think Peter Jackson has come the closest of any director ever to match my mental pictures that I get when I’m reading a book.
Ed–you are right too. Have to admit the look when all of the hobbits are bouncing on the bed was… something…
It’s tough because some things that Tolkien wrote just don’t translate well to the big screen–especially those ‘loving looks’ scenes.
It’s always been one of my favorite series to re-read though.
Director’s cut made more sense to my wife than the theatrical release.
I can see why.
The story inspires us to aspire to better things.
+1 for Liv Tyler. Not as awesome as her role in One Night At McCool’s (good heavens, she’s hot in that movie) but still…very nice.
Sam & Frodo were the worst parts of the damn movies. Other than that, good stuff. Still love the books more. I just hope they don’t make Bilbo out to be such a fucking pussy when it’s his turn.
