Well, it wasn’t the second coming
All of which means Obamacare stays, spending will still be out of control, etc.
Maybe- just MAYBE- this means he can’t do any more damage. I doubt that, though. My mediocre hopes for the election were completely justified
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
I looked at all the libertarian candidates, but I haven’t smoked enough dope in my lifetime to make any of them attractive except as “not A or B”. After I voted I dropped the daughter off at school. She asked, “What are libertarians?” After explaining as best as I could, trying very hard not to give her any prejudices where non exist yet, she said ‘No. If Republicans are Elephants and Democrats are jackasses (her words) what are libertarians? Ostriches?” She meant it to be funny, but she had NO IDEA.
So all day I’v e been thinking of the Libertarian symbol as an Ostrich, perhaps with a cannabis leaf instead of a stinkstar for an asshole.

The hope for an Øbamacare repeal now goes to the courts, which with any luck will find it unConstititional.
Yeah, who am I kidding?
yeah, I wouldn’t get my hopes up either
Porcupines, actually.
lol. Did not know that. Have to point that out to the Oglet.
Your daughter is very astute. Tam’s suggestion indicates porcupines are a sub-set of Wookie, but if I’m a partial porcupine, where’s my Porsche?
Hey, I would have a wookie suit if I could find one to skin.
I didn’t vote for any Libertarians, because the ones on my ballot were all loudly “bring the troops home tomorrow and who cares about the consequences” isolationists.
It’s a shame, really, that the LP is not only generally a haven of loons, but specifically isolationist loons.
…but specifically isolationist loons.
They are the best kind. If you must be a loon, keeping it to yourself is best for everyone.
How did THIS guy lose?

I reckon unicorn has been claimed by liberals already so that can’t be it.
I used to be a Libertarian.
Then I grew up.
“Randy Rager”,
Funny, I used to be a Republican.
Then they started messing around in my business and forgot about the Constitution.
“Then they started messing around in my business and forgot about the Constitution. ”
Those people are called “politicians”. “Republican” is just one of the many subsets.
Here’s some more name calling but this did make me chuckle.
Not sure who wrote this but it’s a great quote.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
:)
LOL! Indeed, Jenny, I feel the same way about Ms Rand.
Yeah, well, Ayn Rand died poor, didn’t she? –What, no? H’mm.
I’m not hearin’ a whole lot of talk about ideas, just red/blue/yellow boosterism and bashing.
Yes, we have come so far — so very far — since the chariot-racing riots of Byzantium. Or not.
(PS: the Libertarian Party mascot is the Statue of Liberty. Don’t confuse the LP with “libertarians” per se).
I’d still rather see Rebecca Sink-Burris in the Senate instead of Dan Coats or Brad Ellsworth. She talked a lot less hoo-rah BS than either of the two boys. Oh, Coats is marginally better than Ellsworth, but why settle for second-best? If you really want a small government that stays out of your hair, why vote for bloated, old-school pols?
I voted Libertarian for Comptroller, but only because he wasn’t a Democrat or Judy Baar Topinka. I truly despise that special interest whore.
She won, natch.
“Yeah, well, Ayn Rand died poor, didn’t she? –What, no? H’mm.”
And this would be proof of what, exactly?
Poor or rich, Ms Rand had a headful of ideas no more valid than the ones that brought us Obamacare.
“If you really want a small government that stays out of your hair, why vote for bloated, old-school pols?”
Well, because they might actually- you know- win. No politician is perfect, just by nature of their willingness to be politicians. I choose to vote for the candidate who will do the least damage who has the greatest posssibility of winning, and for the most part, that’s not a libertarian.
In our lifetimes we will never see a libertarian president, nor a libertarian majority in either house, senate, or local government. The libertarian party is really just “none of the above” as Grau illustrates. In our lifetimes, that’s all it will ever be.
I got lots of ideas. And they are good ideas, and they will work. Nobody wants to hear them because I’m a big od meanie and my ideas don’t involve snuggling puppies and painting peace signs.
But sure, voting can fix all this. Really. I still think the ostrich is pretty appropriate.
I’m not a Republican either, Tam. I’m an Independent that thinks political parties are by their very nature incompatible with the values we profess to hold as Americans.
On another note, we’ll see more Tea Party candidates succeed than we will Libertarian Party candidates (already have, actually) simply because the Tea Party folks aren’t so above it all.
