Dogs barking
Spent a good chunk of my day yesterday climbing around inside machinery. A lot of that time you end up doing things like standing on pipes or straddling rails, and the pressure to the arch of your foot is incredible. Add to that the inherent slipperiness of the equipment, and the strength you need in your calves and thighs to keep from sliding everywhere, and my legs feel like they’ve been beaten with hammers, feet as if they’re going to turn into a giant cramp.

That’s how I felt after crawling around in the attic last weekend.
Must be all that being careful to stand only on the 2″ wide joists and not fall down between them :)
I’d suggest a massage, but know I’d just be wasting my time…;)
Just wait’ll the calf-cramps hit at about 3am.
YOWSER.
libs,
Trick for calf-cramps: Quickly reach down and pull back on your toes (NOT forward). Works every time for me.
I again emphasize quickly, because as you reach for your toes you will naturally bend your leg to aid in reaching — and that will intensify the pain.
It works so well, that eventually (maybe years later) your body will react with cramps in your thighs. There is no mechanical release for that that I know of.

There is, but I really shouldn’t tell you. If you were to use it, then in a few years your body will react by tying your penis in a knot.
Gizmo, you have the makings of a grade-A smartass.
Pascal, it’s called reciprocal inhibition. I just remember “toes to your nose” and dorsiflex the appropriate foot when I get a cramp in my calf.

Oh, so that is why it’s called SAW palmetto.
Take a quinine tab at bedtime. If you don’t have that drink ten ounces of Tonic Water.
