Oh, da second week o’ deer camp
Was actually just as fine as the first. We don’t have the problems listed in the song, thank God, the camp is cozy as hell.
hard to believe this started as an old CONEX box. We installed windows and a door, insulated it, (Spray foam), hung drywall walls and ceiling, taped the drywall, and painted. Exotic Bubinga window and door trim complete the picture, and a birdseye maple floor finished with linseed oil.

Nice.
Very nice. Maybe start a Deer Camp Cribs show: “this is where the magic happens.”
Our “Deer Camp” has been the Trail Inn Motel in Cheyenne Wells. We are thinking about a folding wall camp trailer to tow out and park at one of the ranches where we hunt.
Totally different than the traditional midwest concept of hunting camp.
The second week of deer camp
is the greatest time of year
We drink, play cards and shoot the bull
but never shoot no deer
The only time we leave the camp
is when we go for beer

I’m starting to be a little disturbed that we know all the same songs. I blame Dr. Demento.
I’ve lived in apartments in NYC that weren’t as nice as this. Or as big.
I’m impressed.

There is a program out there somewhere–a charity, I should say–which converts shipping containers into homes for people in third-world countries.
I keep mulling the idea of buying some land in an unincorporated area and building myself a house out of a couple of 53′ containers. Hell, it’s just me and two cats; I don’t need a mansion.
Wait, I’d need a garage–so, two more containers for that.
Heck, if you put up vinyl siding on the thing and gave it a peaked roof, everyone would think it was just a “manufactured home” anyway.
Do you have any problems with the box “sweating”? I guess if its cold enough to run the wood heater that will take care of any moisture that collects inside.
I like it.
No. 3″ or more of foamed in place insulation
He that is really cosy. Like that.
After you mentioned this last week, while at work and at a container shipping facility, I started pacing out the layout of my future conex camp. :)
Great idea.
That’s a nicer set-up than my bedroom growing up. Bigger and better built, and you don’t have to share it with a catty teenage girl.
