Many of my good friends
do not “do” Christmas.
I understand. Christmas is a depressing holiday, for a lot of adults. A lot of people have hard Christmas memories, and the music and decoration and commercialized glee only accentuate the roughness of those memories past. I have a few memories of my own that I don’t like dredged up.
On the flipside of that, though, is the way those people have always treated me. As much as they seem like Grinches to everyone else, they are my dearest freiends, and their friendship and often boundless generosity are more than I deserve or have ever done anything to warrant.
So for the handful of friends I have who for their own reasons choose not to make a big deal out of Christmas, preferring the company of friends and their friendship to the forced observance of a sometimes painful holiday….
Yours is the Christmas I prefer, as well. Possibly the only true Christmas. I hope I can be a good enough friend to deserve your friendship.

If you can’t be generous all year round, there’s no point in being generous for a single day in December.
Randy +1. Exactly what I was going to say.
One of the things I love about being half Jewish and half Lutheran is that we always celebrated both :)
I ceased to regard Christmas as a religious holiday about 10 years ago (which means I’m as annoyed by the “Christ-in-Christmas” crowd as anyone), but as a social observance? Sure. It’s heartwarming and fun, and the lights are pretty. Plus everybody likes getting/giving presents.
I’m doing it on my own terms this year, spending it with people I want to see instead of with my family, because I’d rather be where I won’t be treated like a problem to be solved.
Though I don’t believe in religion, I still like the Christmas holidays, and like to celebrate them. For me, it’s all about the people and the spirit they are in.
If you don’t like Christmas, work that day for someone who does.
Should be a win-win, right?
I like a small Christmas. We put up a little tree with the Gi-Joes, and stay out of the rain.
I loved this years christmas, bought $500 worth of electronic toys for our live-in parasite, and she was verbally abusing me before I had time to clean up the wrapping paper.
