Ham off the bone
Took a nice hambone and crockpotted it. Pound of navy beans I soaked overnight. Cooked 8 hours until meat fgell off the bones, then added a can of diced tomatoes.
I’m told it smells and tastes lovely, I myself canot tell, as my nose is stuffed up as can be.
I also made cornbread, and it seems good too, though it took a lot longer to cook than I remember, possibly because I did it properly in a cast iron frypan and not in a thin sheet metal pan. I’ll remeember next time, no doubt. Using the stand mixer would have helped. Off to bed and nyquil.

With the corn bread- next time, in a cast iron skillet, heat it up, put in about 1 tablespoon of butter and about the same amount of oil, heat it until the butter starts to brown, pour in the cornbread batter, heat on the stove for about 4 minutes, then throw it in the oven. It cooks as fast but makes a great crust.
I toss the skillet into the oven when I start the preheating. When the oven is hot, so is the skillet. A dab of bacon grease in the thing, slathered generously over the bottom and up the sides, then add your cornbread batter and bake.
No additional time is needed, and you end up with a delicious crust on your cornbread.

Okay…I can see a cornbread cook-off in the future…I’m all in.
I’ve always cooked in a thin loaf pan. It tastes delicious…for about 5 minutes, and then it’s cold.
I’ll have to try the iron skillet.
Damn. Now, I’m hungry.
Can add a can of chopped chilis into the batter, too.
Ex-wife sometimes added a can of creamed corn; made it take longer to bake, but usually came out pretty good.
