Range Report: Uberti Colt Cattleman

Man, oh, man, do I LOVE this gun.
This was my BAG day purchase, put the money down, paid it off Father’s day, shot it for the first time this afternoon.
The trigger? Well, Maybe a little work with a ruby or garnet stone, just to smooth it out, but it’s already got a good break. Might just need some shooting to wear it in. Hurt me, hurt me.
Less felt recoil than I’d expected. Makes big damned holes in things. At 25 yards, I’m gonna have to get different contacts, I can see the target but not the sights! I did manage to get some in the black at 25 yards, and hell, anything man sized would be in a world of hurt- but all in all? I’m gonna get me a Duke sized belt and slip a holster on it, maybe with some silver conchas. I cannot wait to get some supplies and start loading for this sucker too. Good excuse to get the lead furnace back in gear.
Less than $250 most places, and it shoots the same ammo as this fine rifle which would look fine in a saddle scabbard. Makes me WANT to go get a damned horse.

Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!
Verra nice, indeed. Is that the 4-5/8″ (or thereabouts) barrel? I went with the 4-3/4″ barrel on the Heritage Rough Rider I used in the .22 pistol postal match back in May because I really like the proportions of the shorter barrel.
I plan to have at least one Cattleman; my second .45LC (why two? hell, ya got two hands, ain’t ya?) will be either a second Cattleman, a Ruger New Vaquero, or a Taurus Gaucho.
It’s the shorter barrel one, yeah, like 4-1/2 or therabouts. It shoots like a bashee!!
I just noticed this part:
“paid it off Father’s day, shot it for the first time this afternoon”
Father’s Day was June 19th. Duuuuuude!!! That was like, three weeks ago! The time that elapses between me buying a gun and me shooting that gun is usually measured in hours. Sometimes even in minutes…
Not weeks… [shaking head]
Welcome to my life, Jay.
Just funnin’ ya, og. I know how it goes.
Hell, it took me almost four YEARS to shoot my Winchester 1300…
LOL! Yeah, that’s a pain. But still, you gotta make time when you can!
It’s a beaut!
Congrats Og! You earned it!
Christmas in July
After I showed off Darth Vader on Monday, it looks like a bunch of other people in the gun-blogosphere are getting themselves presents. Mugwug got a new flashhider for his M1A and has some great pics. Og the Neadnerpundit picked…
