I’ve had a troll
come over from Primordial Slack. I don’t think it had any idea what goes on here.
The troll in question has been part of a discussion about abortion, and is anxious to get all up in my grill about “tolerance”
Fuck tolerance. “Tolerance” and “belief” are two of the biggest lies in the universe.
Every time I hear someone saying “That’s intolerant of you” or “you’re an intolerant asshole” it makes me smile. People expect you to be tolerant of their “beliefs” because, well, they believe them!!
Tolerance is a way of saying “you have to accept me because I said so!”
Except hoplophobes are not tolerant of gun owners, and that’s fine.
Except anti theists are not tolerant of people with religion.
Except, invariably, all those people telling you to be “Tolerant” of their BS won’t lift a finger towards “Tolerance” of yours.
Here’s what I’m “tolerant” of. People who go about their own business and don’t make any effort to tell me what I should do, or how I should live. I’m unquestionably opinionated, and will enter into any discussion where I have some knowledge. My viewpoint is always based on my studies and personal experience, and I do not merge fact and conjecture- therein lies “belief” and stupidity.
I regularly get hammered with “You’re intolerant of my beliefs”. Don’t care. I have no beliefs, and work very hard not to have any beliefs. you can do whatever the hell you please. Don’t show up spouting nonsense and expect not to be called on it, because my “respect” for your “beliefs” when they are based on your “Feelings” is zero. You want to take me to school? Show up with facts. It does happen. In the meantime you can live your life any way you damned well please. I’m not basing how I live on feelings, and you shouldn’t either.
To these assholes, “tolerance” does not mean what I mean when I say it.
To me, “tolerance” means putting up with something I don’t like or disapprove of because I don’t have the right to tell other people how to live their lives. It means accepting that all people are different and that I’m going to find some people completely unlikable; it means that I can have whatever opinions of them I want as long as I don’t discriminate against them based on whatever these differences are.
To those dickheads, “tolerance” means liking and accepting the same things they do. Failure to like and accept everyone who they like and accept makes you an intolerant nazi fuck. Liking and supporting someone they hate (such as Ronald Reagan or Sarah Palin) also makes you intolerant.
People who preach about others being “tolerant” are usually the most intolerant assholes around, too.
You can’t reason, either. They won’t accept a logical discussion.
My response: “This is America; I have to respect your freedom to worship/believe/speak as you choose, but I do NOT have to respect your beliefs.” And if they don’t like that? “Tough shit, deal with it.”
Intolerance is highly underrated.

I never can remember- is it tolerance or inductance or resistance when a 1000 watt soldering iron is Vaselined and shoved into a troll’s rectum and then the power applied?
I never paid enough attention in that EE course.
