Nation of Riflemen. And women.
Full circle. This is my daughter, shooting a Stevens Crackshot 26 which my best friend loaned to me, which was his father’s rifle when he was very young.
Nearly forty years ago this year, my father took me to a field in my grandfather’s farm, put a shotgun in my hands (after carefully explaining the rules) and threw clays for me until I got the hang of leading them.
She carefully and eagerly followed my instructions, and did OK, for a beginner. Got the holes on the paper, after around 15 shots at 25 yards. I’m incredibly proud.
This is what it’s about, folks. Don’t wait until it’s too late to pass the torch.

i remember when my dad taught me to shoot… nice pic
What a cutie! I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough to take to the range. I’ve been eyeing a Ruger 10/22 in anticipation.
Thanks, guys, she’s a doll. And jeff, look at the Cricket, a great ‘first” rifle, small enough for a child to use, well made, inexpensive.
i was going to get a 410 and take my boys out to the range as a follow up to pellet gun training with their uncle, but a friend of mine suggested I get a youth 20 gauge instead. Whaddathink?
A nice choice is one of the Savage combo guns. You can get them in 20 gauge/22 rimfire, and a liught 20 gauge load doesn’t recoil any more than the 410. That way, your boy has a rifle AND a shotgun, and he’ll use it all his life. Rugged, dependable firearms. List price is around $600 but you often see them at gun shows and used shops for a LOT less.
Make sure you get him through a safety education course! Your local rangemaster can probably reccomend a good one.
I fired my first rifle at summer camp, but my brother was the one who really taught me to shoot. I never went to the range with my dad, but my mom has promised me his .357 if she ever finds it. *sigh*
There’s more than one direction for too late.
Girl, you call me anytime you’re in the Chicago area, we’ll arm you and turn you loose.
is this what you meant?

i have to admit, i had not considered an over under, but this is a great idea and it doesn’t seem like the 22 adds much weight. have you ever shot one of these?
That’s exactly it, Rammer! It’s a great little gun, and made to stand up to years of kid use. And frankly, it’s a gun I would keep in the back of the truck. A lot of calibers are available now, as opposed to just 22’s and 20 gauge.
I have shot several of these, and now that you say it, I might just have to get one for myself.
