Thought experiment:
In some recent poll, Donald Trump is doing pretty well in the list of the presidential hopefuls.
In other news, flying flaming monkeys have spontaneously burst forth from my buttocks.
Look: So long as the media engages in wholesale character assasination of any legitimate conservative who would run for the office of POTUS, nobody with any real character will ever step up.
So, who would YOU think would be a better candidate than The Donald? And why?
yours in comments.

Is he going to have a VP or are they going to have a reality show to compete for the position?
Tam suggested paul Ruebens. Me, I’d like to see Space Ghost.
Are we allowed to learn from previous mistakes?
The last wealthy maverick who took on the parties and won the hearts of independents and conservatives was Ross Perot. Does anybody remember how strong he was in early July 1992? A few days after the polls showed him at 42% over Bush and Clinton, he pulled out for reasons that have always been sketchy. IIRC, he said he was afraid for his daughter (whose big wedding was coming up). IOW, his alleged courage vanished overnight. And then he came back into the race (it was rumored he was told he could not back out now), guaranteeing Clinton’s win with a paltry 41% plurality when votes for all splinter candidates are included. (The media always referred to 43% by ignoring all splinters. Proving that even back then they were in the tank, but few people dared say it.)
If unseen powers could frighten the bold (brash?) Perot to pull out when he was on top, I fear for all our dissident hopes. What chances on earth do we have to thwart the globalists should The Donald be the next maverick to accept an offer he can’t refuse?
The better candidate,,,I’ve got ideas, but if you want to see who’s worse than The Donald- all you have to do is look at the Republican primary ballot for 2007 and who we had left to choose from.
I an STILL pissed at those dregs.
Trump, just for the sheer Media-savvy of his experience. Perot never had what is now needed more than ever: experience in front of a camera, and the moxie to not care what anyone thinks. Perot cared deeply. Trump could give a rat’s ass. Trump’s gone bankrupt more than once and left good people holding the bag. He walks away smelling like a Bill Clinton rose. Untouchable because he’s base and crude and still winning.
Those are just observations, not an endorsement. He gives more money to Dems than to RINOs, prolly becuz that’s where the favors are. He knows how to work the angles.
I don’t think he’d keep us out of debt, however. He’s proven that personally.
Is Larry Flynt running again?
Palin or Thompson would be good. I feel our course is set however, and regardless of how much we wail, we are going down with the ship. Not sure how that plays out as the future, dark it is, always in motion.
Palin,
Thompson,
Bolton,
Cheney,
Zombie Reagan,
One of these or none of the above.
I’m ok with Thomas’ list, but in a different order.
5,3,2,4,1
Perot had a lot of deficiencies, but not his ability to be heard. Perot WAS winning in front of the camera (despite being an unattractive runt), being the first to WIDELY use charts and photos to back up his claims.
I am pointing out that what failed most importantly was his ability to withstand something OFFSTAGE (that may never be revealed) — extra balls. Something unnerved him to pull out abruptly for no understandable reason. There was only one more performance more odd than that. When Romney was polled in mid October ’94 to beat Kennedy in the run for Senate, Romney suddenly began speaking on camera like that reporter late last year — total nonsense. He got creamed in the election. Oh what might have been.
Things have been playing out where most of us have been privileged only to see the casting of shadows in the halls of power. That does not mean we can’t surmise reasonably well what sort of balls, talent and pull (both visible AND untouchable support) is needed to break the hold of SKUNC forces on our system.
What Trump has going for him is he knows how the game is played. It does not mean he isn’t as bad or worse that any of the other players we have been witnessing. His track record does not indicate that he is the type of republican who’d fight to restore constitutional governance. He may be a tough executive — he plays one well enough on Television. It’s not enough.
Palin.
Unless she starts talking looney and gives a crazy platform.
…and since the media grooming of Tim Pawlenty and Mittens Romney with a variety of puff pieces and the continual assault on Palin, I’ve come to be very skeptical of any Independent or Republican that the media now touts.
So… its Palin. Perhaps also Bachman, Or Christy, or maybe Bolton.
But NO media lapdogs. Not anymore.
The Candidate has to be able to take on the World’s First African-American President. So Caucasian Males need not apply. In our Media Age, it has to be someone who is labeled with some kind of Minority Status (so it is open to Females) who is Conservative, and has an Executive Gooberment Track Record that doesn’t smell too rancid. So as far as the available pool for 2012 , if the Republitards REALLY want to get rid of the Anointed One (and I’m not sure that they do), they should grab Bobby Jindell of Louisiana. Other wise, throw out some fool, waste money and time, grab a few seats in the House and Senate (but Not Enough for a Veto Proof Majority, God Forbid!) and keep on feeding the K Street Mafia and your local HomeGrown Cronies.
Of course, when a Conservative Judge on the Supreme Court dies or retires during Barry’s Second Term, and he gets his Rubber Stamp (just like Hugo Chavez, Vladimir Putin, et.al.) it’s Game Over, and Boehner and McConnell and Lott and Shelby and Graham and Luger, they ALL get to go to Yucca Flats and pay for their Crimes Against the Workers!
Cond, after listening to the accusations of intent to murder, destroy the world, etc. that came out of the mouths of a bunch of Congress the last week or so, she could start thinking she was Marvin the Martian and not quite descend to their level.
heh…
A sneer or rabid accusation from those guys should be considered a compliment. If that’s the case, Palin is again the winner to be the next POTUS nominee for the… hmmm…
Well… maybe there’ll be a third party by then…
I don’t agree that only a minority can go up against Obama. Trump would be formidable: as a Capitalist he can perfectly play the “money is no respecter of color, only of ideas” card with amazing credibility.
If he could see his way to use his powers for good, I don’t know why he should be objectionable to the Right. If he can win the primaries outside of the GOPs blessing, even better.
Trump is larger than life, and mostly unassailable by a ridiculous media engine. I’ still just kicking it around out loud. . .
Ron and Rand Paul, the first father-and-son ticket.
Rand gave a great interview with Reason TV, here:

And I’ve always liked Ron’s neo-isolationist foreign policy, it’s actually what George Washington advised in his Farewell Address.
Trump says he’d probably run as independent if he doesn’t win Republican nomination.

There it is:
Trump’s “my way or the highway” ==â–º Perot version II ==â–º Obama II
The postmodern version of antidisestablishmentarianism. The ruling order just ain’t gonna let us cashier them that easily.
You’ve been warning this for a long time Og, but I say it anyway: We’re in for a world of hurting.
soapbox, ballot box
