I have always been a fan of the Krag.
I love, love love them. But I have no burning desire to own one. Or did not, until I saw this one.
Damn. A Harry Pope barrel on a Krag action.

Sorry, the Krag-Jorgensen was a poor substitute for any of the better bolties of the day.
At San Juan Hill, Teddy’s raiders were horribly outgunned by Mausers, and only better discipline and 6 Gatlings saw them to the top and victory.
The loading system sucked, the caliber was so-so for a Thirty, and they are only a passing comment on what it must be like to be second in technology and design.
No thanks.
The action is a miracle of machining, considering they were done on manual machines. And they shoot and operate better than any bolt I’ve ever shot, and I’ve shot them all.
Besides. this is not a battle rifle. it’s a Harry Pope Match rifle. Big difference.
I just pick up a 98 Krag rifle with an ’02 sight. Needs much work and the barrel is rough but it is a miracle of craftsmanship. Maybe sometime we can head to Kingsbury and I’ll bring the Krag and my K-31 ( I need to locate some Krag ammo first.
