Partner loaned me his copy
of “How the Irish Saved Civilization” by Thomas Cahill. A very, very interesting read.
I’m not enough of a history geek to tell you if all the facts and figures contained therein are strictly accurate or in context, but I can tell you, his description of the fall of the roman empire- the barbarians slowly filtering in through porous borders, the citizens slowly being taxed out of existence- is vaguely familiar, somehow….
In all, an excellent read, and I’m savoring it, by only reading as bedtime approaches. I can only usually get in a handful of pages before sleep overtakes me.

Was given a copy a few years back; a very interesting read
I wish someone would give a copy to Barry O’Bama. He can’t have lived in Chicago and never heard of the book.
I read it years back, and Cahill’s other books are good too. None so gripping as the Irish one, however.
