When the British first formed police forces in the 1860’s, they insisted, upon condition of their creation, that they be unarmed, for the exact same reasons outlined above and in the other post where it was noted in comments that crackdown will not be done by the military, but by the police.
When I tell people that it’s time to disarm the police in the U.S. for the very same reason, they look at me as if I was a green spaghetti monster. Some cops are ok people on their own (every one of those is either retired or a 20+ year veteran, none are young), but I even suspect them. Most are ex-football players ticked off that their career stopped at graduation. The younger ones are such gym rats that their arms stick out like they’re carrying luggage all the time, and you wonder how they wipe their butts they’re so muscle bound. Punks and bullies who see every non-cop as a perp to some extent, even the nun driving the bus of blind orphans to Mass in the morning. The Blue Line is such an us vs. them to an extent that military people are not. We prior service may have an us and them attitude to those who never served, we may note the difference and give an added dollop of respect for our fellow vets, but it’s not an us vs. them regarding civilians.

Need proof? Just look at the NRA, OUR NRA. Charged by it’s members with protecting the Second Amendment, you can only get an NRA leader to tell you what the Second really means if you back him into a corner. It means protecting the Gun s to Destroy Tyranny, that’s what it means, nothing more and nothing less.
It’s over. The Grand Experiment is over. The best any of us can do is try to figure out where a small enclave of civility might persevere against these odds, and go there to help found it. Once there, we will have to realize that we’ve just founded a Ghetto, like the Warsaw Ghetto, and take life a day at a time, because one day, the Gauleiter will issue the orders, and we will all be sent to our Eternal Reward.

AWM, if you do a little research you’ll find that the infamous Protocols are a hoax, that has taken in untold people. Sadly, things are mucked up enough that it appears that we need a Washington, we need a Fredrick the Great (who had written the Anit-machievellian) or maybe one of the great Senators of the early Roman Republic who would lead the people and when the threat was gone, to then give up the power granted and go back to his fields and plow.

Yea, a gun is a rather efficient tool in dealing with certain issues. Due to our collective ethics as a people, I think that we all know intuitively that the the use of this tool (at this time) is not the right one for this problem. I think that the mere existence in the hands of us citizens is purpose enough. Can you imagine how things would be if we were an unarmed populus?
