For those who didn’t return
And for those who did, and were broken all their lives,
and for those who came home and we have lost in our midst
Thank you.
I can ramble a lot about how much I appreciate what you did, but it would just feel trite. So thanks, and I’ll try to deserve your sacrifice. As a nation, we haven’t been doing so well, in that regard. Maybe I can do better as an individual.

I posted a picture I took on my site. No words.
Some people posted a few sentences of appreciation.
Others posted paragraphs of eloquent prose.
But it all can be edited down to the two words: Thank you.
If it is thousands of words, or only those two words, it is still woefully inadequate.
I think I read this somewhere.
Some holidays are to be celebrated. Some holidays are to be observed. This is a holiday to be observed.
So, today, have a good day, and be thankful.
My son’s classmate was KIA in AFG last September, a Navy SEAL. Last week, my coworkers son’s Stryker was hit with an IED on his first patrol. I’m growing weary of seeing these kids hurt and killed, and at the same time in so much admiration for their courage and sense of duty.
My Dad’s generation, they were who they were; The Greatest.
Don, the current generation aren’t doing so bad. Mores the pity. Bless them all.
