I love to eat fresh fruit
The trouble is, good fresh fruit is only really fresh and good in a brief window, and in season.
I had relatives who ran farms where you could get blueberries, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, all that stuff. And those fruit would be so good, and then you’d eat it for the week and a half it was good, and get sick to death of it.
Frozen fruit does usually not thaw well, and canned stuff often has lots of added sugar and shit
So when Alton Brown did smoothies on Good Eats, I figured it was worth a try
And it was. I buy fresh frozen fruit at Aldi, where it’s cheap. I put it in a mixer at night, in the fridge, with some juice and skim milk. And in the morning I blend it and drink it.
Damn, this stuff is good. And the soluble fiber- well, let’s just say I’m just an old smoothie.
Update: Some things that are good in smoothies:
Bananas
Blueberries
Blackberries
Raspberries
strawberries
peaches
pears
Some things that are NOT good in smoothies
Avocado
Green beans
Tomatoes
Green peppers
Golf balls

Mangoes.
The traditional Indian mango lassi, made with yogurt and cardamon (you know, that big seed Alton carries around in his pocket with a little rasp), is essentially a smoothie.
Mango season has evidently already passed, but I’ve read that frozen mango pulp from Indian grocery stories is pretty good.
(I’m reading Stirling’s The Peshawar Lancers right now, so Indian food is very much on my mind.)
It must have been a bumper year for strawberries because it seems like everyone has awesome ones for about a buck a pound. We’ve been doing smoothies and making a LOT of jam.
(Homemade strawberry jam is like crack to me)
Golf balls? Dude, and I thought you knew better! Damn near spit my tea all over the monitor.
Damn, dude.

You should see what those guys have blended! LOL
Bacon!
HHhhmmm. There should be an interesting story behind them golfballs!
Brings back memories of picking 32 quarts of strawberries a day in our garden. Two days later, another 32 quarts. Luckily, I liked strawberries. Big California strawberries have no flavor compared to Indiana ones. Love the blueberries too!
