Further equipment suggestion bleg
I asked John Venlet about this earlier, and I trust his suggestions.
I am looking to now go back to maybe trying to learn to fly fish, now that I can feel my hands. John suggested this which I’m pretty sure I’m gonna go buy tonight. It’s a little outside my budget but I can make do. Anyone else have personal experience with a low-end entry level fly rod package in the $50 range? If not I’m gonna go back to what I expect is excellent advice, because John has actually used this rod and finds it acceptible.
No personal experience with that combo or any other, but Cabelas has a good reputation, and the combo got good reviews. I considered trying fly fishing, but I don’t have time to go fishing as often as I’d like anyway, no sense adding another type of fishing I don’t have time for.
I will offer this though, having been a fisherman for some 40+ years (I don’t remember the first time my Dad took me fishing). The fish doesn’t care what’s on your end of the line. If it feels good to you, and it’s up to the task of landing the fish you’re likely to latch onto, it’s good.
Og, I should’ve mentioned to you earlier that my very first fly rod/reel rig was a Cabelas product. I’ve since passed it on to someone else just getting into the pasttime. Enjoy.

I heartily recommend that you find and purchase a copy of “The Curtis Creek Manifesto”, an excellent primer on fly fishing. It’s in comic book format and is a very pleasant, amusing read. I’ve had my copy since 1986 or ’87. NO, my copy is not for sale and I don’t lend it.
