One thing I have to say about the Canuckistanis
Is they are the walkingest bunch of motherfuckers you ever saw.
Sure, we got people who walk or ride their bikes in the states, but outside of obvious hippie enclaves, the only reason anyone walks is too many DUI’s. In Canuckistan, people with perfectly good cars, who are not obviously broke or poor, will walk to a store and buy stuff, or walk to a friend’s house to visit.
Freaky.
Lots of skinny people, possibly as a result of this, possibly some meth use thrown in there by the appearance of teeth.
My brotherinlaw’s next door neighbor is moving from his childhood home and residence of some 60 years. It pisses him off because he won’t be able to walk to his hockey games, he’s creeping up on 65 and still plays hockey 5 days a week.
I sduppose if I could hunt for aq couple hours a day I would, so I guess that’s not all that strange. Still, hockey! goofball.
Odd you should say that. When I go visit family in PR, I walk everywhere, all over town. I don’t give a thought to walking a few miles to get my groceries, or take food to my grandma, or go to the basketball game.
But come back to Texas and I can’t do the logistics of walking….
When I lived in NYC I walked all the time — it’s just that kind of place. Having a car in the city can actually be inconvenient — and there’s no such as Free Parking.
By comparison, a lot of the rest of the USofA, you get in your car and you go places. Period. People walk more on treadmills than they do on streets — if they walk at all. And I say streets because more often than not there’s no sidewalks.
Just how our culture evolved, I guess.

Even when there are sidewalks, and people are walking, they don’t use the sidewalks–at least around here. I think these people simply do not understand the concept of the sidewalk: “Holy crap, you mean there’s pavement made specifically for people to walk on?”
One wonders what these people think sidewalks are for.
It gets to the point that I want to stop the Jeep, get out, and point: “Do you see that strip of concrete there? That is called a ‘sidewalk’. Do you know why they call it that?”
Argh etc.
