because I forgot yesterday,
here is the link to Project Gutenberg.
here are the haggard books.
Here- to show you what gems the Gutenberg project contains, is Conrad’s “heart of Darkness”
I buy few new books anymore. There are just too many good old ones.

Just to note in passing that the entire works of Winston Churchill are there as a single download. (~9MB in .mobi, IIRC).

Holy crap.
People with Kindles who want to share books might also like http://lendle.me/. You can’t share everything, because a lot of authors/publishers don’t allow, but there are a whole bunch who do.
Thanks, Bus Lady, that’s excellent news!

LOL! Stolen from my very mind, Og! I even shop on the “used” side at amazon. Went to a used-book sale last weekend, hoping to find some old treasures. I found two old anthologies of short stories. But the room was FULL off new stuff that nobody was buying. Just so. much. JUNK. How does so much of that stuff make it into print??
Indeed, Liz!
I went to a used bookstore in Canada, and they wanted $24 for some old stuff I figured would be a dollar- and they were charging cover price plus for harlequin Romances! I was astounded! the stores close by here are all much more reasonable, and the Amazon used books are the bomb.
Wait. ALL of the works of Mr Churchill? I’m going to have to rethink my pledge (which has held since 9th grade, more or less) to read a bit of the LOTR every evening? THE HORROR! (just to mix a few…)
