Quinnochio finds a new way to tax those who produce
The state board (Appointed by Gov Quinn) votes today on a toll increase.
Another tax on people who produce. This will cost me personally another $2.40/day, at least.
Welcome to the People’s Republic of Illinois.

Can you at least write that off as a business expense on your taxes if it’s for work?
Not a chance. Once they have the money there’s no way they’re gonna give it back.
Actually, you CAN write it off. I do it all the time.
And this isn’t a TAX, per se. It’s a user fee. Don’t drive the tollway, don’t pay the tolls. Simple. Frankly, I much perfer these over increased taxation and spending.
Problem is, the last time tolls went up under Blow-Joe people DIDN’T use the tollway. Route 20 west went from a nice, sleepy country drive to “dodgeball with Peterbilts”. And that road’s not designed for modern semis.
My commute is 1.5 hrs each way, and without the tollroads it approaches 2.5 hours each way. I’ve been told by my accountant that I cannot write this off, and I’ve trusted him for 28 yrs, and not about to stop anytime soon.
“And this isn’t a TAX, per se.”
My money. State’s pocket. Tax.
As unemployment reaches epic levels, perhaps the secondary road commute will get closer to the toll road times. How i long for the days when a NECO wafer could be thrown in the basket as a sweet sugary substitute fo’ a quarter. Can you say “highway robbery”? Thought so!
I have a feeling more and more businesses will start crossing over to Indiana. Yours might not in the next while, but as the cost of doing business becomes prohibitive, there might be a renewal of Hammond and Gary since they are so close to the border.
Your money, state’s pocket, go to jail if you don’t pay it.
Tax.
…and I hope Midwest Chick is right, because those communities are close enough for me to commute to them while I’m still living here.
Consider yourself lucky. You get to contribute toward the well being and bad habits of an entire 3 generations of welfare leeches, union thugs and bureaucratic assholes. The only saving grace is that it’s not just in Ill-noise, but everywhere. At least in Florida, I can carry my gun.
