Why is it
that the weather stations have to have reporters standing out in the tempest?
Yeah, I guess they don’t get much excitement otherwise. But really: It’s a hurricane. Its bad, we get it. You don’t need to have a guy showing us how miserable it is. Really.
Of course it could be that I’m jealous, because I love to be out in a storm. You’d think I’d be more careful, I’m the only member of my family not to get hit by lightning. yet.
On the other hand, I’m amazed at the sound quality. It sounds like they’re in studios, and while i know the micrtophone tech has improved, I understand that a lot of it is electronic noise filtration- but the old NSC Dynamic Noise system was never anything like this.
Get back to the damned studios, guys.

Maybe because an animation of a weather radar plot is lousy TV?
M
“Hurricane” Dan Rather, that’s why. The guy got a national career after he stood out in whatever storm it was that catapulted him to fame, and everyone else in the industry thinks that the same thing could happen to them.
Note to media morons: it worked for him because he was the first. Not the XXth.
Good lord, I’d forgotten all about that!
Remotes. If it’s one where the action is going on, I can understand it. And like Alger pointed out, it’s what makes for good TV that matters, and if ten more people come to watch if you put the new hire in a hooded raincoat along the shore, then bingo.
It’s the remote where they’re on the scene of a shooting that happened 12 hours ago, and now it’s dark, you can see nothing of the area, and 23,000 disadvantaged urban youth are dancing in the background and pushing against the news reader and harshing her mellow that just makes me laugh.
p.s.: I really, really like the British term for tv and radio news “reporters.” News reader describes the job perfectly, as well as its requirements and what it expects from the person. So I use it – don’t let it’s usage in the last comment throw you.
It’s hurricane porn, is what it is, and we’re the voyeurs. Probably the storm reporters have contract stipulations requiring that they stand in the surf and get buffeted by wind and rain. It’ll continue until one of them is killed either by flying debris or drowned in the surf after being blown off his/her feet.
I’m living thru this on the Jersey Shore and my observation is the MSM is doing is making great effort to panic the population.
