New rathole
I have seen lower receivers all over the place cheap as chips. Not being a black gun kind of a guy, I had resisted the temptation for a long time. As Tam said while I was filling out the 73, the first hit is free. Already, I’m jonesing.
What finally got me was price and convenience. All the places that had them for sixty-eighty bucks, I would have had to pay for shipping, and then have the transfer done locally, which would have brought the price over a hundred bucks, easily. At the Indy, I was able to get out the door for $78.
So now I’ve slid down the AR rathole. I ought to get rid of some other shit to make room for the new shit.

The problem with Legos is that you can’t just stick with the basic 200-pc starter set… ;)
Evil Black Rifles are accurate and reliable, but their finest attribute is that just seeing one, makes liberals wet their pants.
So you are building your own from parts? I considered that but just like with comnputers today, getting the whole thing is cheaper than the sum of the parts. And there is plenty of variety to get what you want.
Did you know that .223 WSSM will work through very lightly-modified AR mags, using the right barrel?
The idea of a rifle that can go from .22LR to .50BMG by pushing out two captive pins, well… It can bring out the inner gun nerd in a hurry…
Hale: it’s not cost savings I’m aiming for.
Wouldn’t mind having an AR-10….
Professor Hale,
“I considered that but just like with comnputers today, getting the whole thing is cheaper than the sum of the parts.”
Yes and no.
If you just want some commodity-grade range plinker, go ‘head and buy the DPMS or Bushhamster. If you want a stock “Tier 1” rifle, go to BC/DD/LMT/Colt/Noveske.
But if you’re going to bin-and-replace half the parts on whatever gun you buy anyway, you may as well just build it yourself.
And even then, it’s not about the money, it’s about the fun.
Og, beware of that seductress named Tam.
If you’re doing a full build why not start with an 80% lower?
