Home again, home again, jiggity jig.
The instructor gave us our certificates and turned us loose at noon. 2/3 of the class flew in and their flights didn’t leave till tomorrow,. so they stuck around and played with the machines.
I cut out and hit the road, only to find out that the road was occupied. Well, the highway was, anyway.
No worries, though, Michigan backroads are nice, and aren’t likely to be crowded, so I peeled off and scooted.
I love backroads, at least as much for the things you see as for the twistiness of the roads. I chose one that seemed to follow I-94 more or less, and headed west.
The road had a lot of long, slow gentle curves, and a few surprising spots that were two-handed in an Explorer. I took the inside of one (I could see the approach, and there was nothing coming) and accidentally overtook a bluehaired couple in a vette, who are probably still scraping the pudding out of their drawers. (sorry, grams and gramps. I just didn’t want to do that curve at 15 mpg) I got to see a house that looked like a gingerbread castle frosted in pink. I was already a mile past it before I thought of a photograph. If I can find it on Google Maps I’ll post a picture later.
Anyway, I needed a Frappe, and in the middle of an intersection I saw I was driving past a McDonalds and banged a uey to get one. As I did it dawned on me that I had done this twice, recently. Sorry, Partner, mr B, and Midwest Chick. The 40 mph uey on east 38th street- well, I oughta’ve warned you. Hope your breakables made it home OK.
Makes me wonder if I have a problem.
I can stop anytime!
Anyway it’s good to be home and going to sleep in my own bed tonight.

I kinda don’t care how old you are, “Corvette” and “15 mph” just should not go together. It’s just asking for trouble, in the cosmic sense.
If you do decide to take that “mental health” day Friday, let me know if you want some company.
I’m going to confess to not having tried one of the McDonalds Frappes yet, assuming that it was just a glorified shake…you speaking highly of them the last two days has me tempted…
BAD Og, no MacDonald’s! I don’t care about the rainforest and all of that bs, but they give 5-15 million a year to anti-gun groups, so they damned sure don’t get my money and should not get yours either. There are a lot of gun owners in this nation; if we were all to have the conviction to forgo convenience and price for the sake of our principles and let corporations know why they just lost a couple hundred million customers, just think what we could accomplish.
Ken: If you choose not to support any organization that is pro-x or anti-y, you will soon find yourself living under a pile of leaves licking lichen off of rocks. There is no organization that doesn’t do something I find objectionable. McDonalds also does a lot of good things
I’m anti-rock for their support of lichen.
The Frappe IS a glorified shake, a phenomenally, exquisitely, wonderfully glorified shake. It also has guilt-suppressing properties, if you happen to think of politics. Or calories.
While not as much of a road warrior as you (I work for the railroad, I guess that makes me a rail warrior), I can second that desire to sleep in your own bed.
Own bed=GOOOOOOD :-) And an early out, even better!
Ah, reminds me of when I used to drive for Fox Photo in GA back in the Eighties. The direct route was generally so boring that I would stop at the courthouse in each county and get the official county road map.
I would then proceed to drive at insane speeds on the smallest and dirtiest roads on the map.
I got back at about the same time as I otherwise would have done, but I had more fun and got their car much dirtier.
