When I sold the Zook
to Ed Hering, one of the very first things I did was to order the parts kit to assemble the M4gery.
it was backordered, so I didn’t get it. They charged the card, which was annoying, because there were several times in the interin when I could really really, really have put that money to better use, like helping out a couple friends who were in need, and I could not because the money was already out of my account. This did not please me.
On the other hand, my order has now shipped, and I’m refreshing the UPS tracking site like a crack addicted monkey pushing the crack-pellet button waiting for the moment when I can finally build my AR and join the fraternity of black gunnies.

Welcome to the “club”.
The fiddly bits in the receiver will drive you to drink. A hitch pin will do the most to help. The little one that has a cotter key to hold it. You can push springs through the hole and then turn the pin to hold the spring till you get the holding pin in place. That should save some cussing.
It’s not that easy to get into the club. We don’t just let people in when they buy parts. You have to show evidence of at least one argument you had on the internet where you defended the AR platform and the 5.56mm bullet. Bonus points if you managed to dis an AK in the process.
Before you ask. Yes, arguing with yourself counts.
That reminds me of my plan to build a smooth-side top-cocking AR over the winter or next year.
Shiny AR-15-prototype-clone action.
“Before you ask. Yes, arguing with yourself counts”
I’m in.
You need to spread the word about that merchant who charged your card without shipping the goods. That’s unethical, to say the least, and there are plenty of gunny merchants who won’t do that.
Who was it, Og?
Oh, I knew it was backordered at the time, and they promised me it would be shipped within a month, which it was. All of this is my own damned fault, not the vendor. They have been great so far, and when I get the parts and know they work, I will most likely do a review.
I used toothpicks broken off to length as replaceable drift-pins in the Lower, but bamboo skewers are perhaps a tougher material choice.
IMO doing an Upper is much more of a AR-He-Man thing, but I want to try…if I can scrape together some dosh – maybe I can sell my Noveske LoPro upper and build one, and then I’d have some money left-over? :-)
I will probably grind a set of assembly pins.
My best assembly/disassemble tool is a big clear plastic bag to catch the stuff that wants to go to that place that things go to never be found again. Have fun with the mouse but watch out, building the things can become addictive.
