Orneriness and rage
will take you places plain old muscle won’t.
Mr B dropped off a couple slices of log last week, each over 3′ in diameter and 18″ plus thick Not seasoned too well yet, still a little clingy to split- and damp. One will do service as my new cutting block, the other is already hacked into manageable size chunks.
Moving the one piece and hacking up the other was downright painful, but I was determined to get it done tonight, and did. I’m sure I’ll be paying for it by the time this is posted.

Got 3 hickories to clear out of the lane, split and stack at dad’s deer camp fore the snow flies. My knees are sore already.
You got a splitter? How much wood?
You’re talking to the splitter, unless my brother can conjure up a gas one. Enough for this desk jockey- three 60 foot hickories, many of which have been cut to 8 ft lengths (by my bro). I’ve been shirking my duty at dad’s place, so it’s time to Get R done. Son and Heir will get his first real dose of this autumnal tradition!
Dads as in different from your spot?
Yep. In Jasper County down by Newton Illinois. I still need to get to wood cutting on my place.
Late hubby used to call it “making choppin’ music” (Chopin?). I call it “recreational splitting,” since he would go split wood after work until supper was ready. He said he did it to “relax.” :o)
Just saw a trailer mounted chainsaw/splitter.
Put up to a 14′ log on it, it rolls it up to a stop, saws it off, falls into a v and the splitter splits it up to 6 ways depending on the splitter head installed.
50 hp diesel t run it all.
Cord an hour. Needs a robotic stacker:)
