What’s for breakfast?
All y’all would be suckers for the gudwife’s Five Bean stew, which uses 1 can each of Pork & Beans, Lima Beans, Pinto Beans, Butter Beans and Great Northern Beans, together with a pound of ground beef, fried up in the grease of half a 2# package of Bacon ends (for more bacon, use the whole package).
Open cans, dump into slow cooker. Add Garlic and dried, chopped Onions to taste (the dried ones hold their flavor longer than fresh onions). You don’t need more salt, the bean-juice is plenty salty, so is the Bacon. Fry bacon, then beef. Drain or not, depending on how much grease you need in you (use your dipstick to check your bacon grease level).
Heat for a while, ladle off some of the bean-juice if it’s too juicy Reserve it for gravy-base if you’re having Biscuits). If desired, ladle off most of the juice and pour in a good, hoppy microbrew, an IPA works well. Eat plenty, prepare to be a bit loose the next day…
I’ve said for years that if Victoria’s Secret ever came out with a line of lingerie made of bacon there’d be a MAJOR baby boom nine months later. Bacon really does make EVERYTHING better.
I don’t know what triggered this post, but I think you’re making an awfully large number of people go buy bacon. Myself included ;)
