Let’s see…. approximately 31,499,956.249 grains moving at 102.76 fps, that’s about 1,019,911.8 ft. lbs. of energy there for Dear Ms. Bambi.
And figure the Exploder has a very broad, flat meplat. A spitzer projectile, it ain’t. (mebbe they should rename it “mesplat” for this one application?
Or in other words, Doe Pate patties. Served of course, on a steaming hot grill.
I’ll never forget the one I almost hit. 1976, southbound in a Chevy C-10 at 60MPH on US 31 north of Carmel, IN, right at the split with IN-431…about 11PM on a fall evening. Sucker ran right into the road and stopped dead, looking at me, about 100 yards ahead.
It was all I could do to jam on the brakes and hope I wouldn’t skid on the damp pavement. But I missed her.
Bitch. Scared the daylights out of me. Dad was riding with me, the only reason he wasn’t driving was because his knee was bothering him and he didn’t want to deal with the clutch.
Oh. And I was driving on my learner’s permit.
I don’t think the same situation would obtain in that neighborhood today. The hoofed rats have been pretty much driven out by development.
Nathan: They’re still around. I live on the south side of Carmel, practically in Indianapolis, and I’ve seen deer wander through the back yard before. Granted, I’m in an older neighborhood with a lot of trees and wooded back lots, but even the new subdivisions tend to have at least one stand of trees nearby.
Sometimes, to miss is lucky!
What caliber Exploder for doe?

They are probably coming back, then. They were definitely gone for awhile.
