“The truth is what I said
I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it . . . but they have this conscience thing.”
Let me stop you there, fishface. You cannot be a Catholic and favor abortion. Period, full stop, end of question, no discussion. Also, you wouldn’t know truth if someone jammed it up your keister.
Nancy whines on and on about MD’s choosing not to perform abortions, and then says “”They will be voting to say that women can die on the floor and health-care providers do not have to intervene”
Any real Catholic knows that in any case where the mother is in danger from the child, even the most ardent Catholic MD will perform an abortion. This is established Christian law, and it is based on Hebrew law; Rambam himself made this clear in the Mishneh Torah in the 1100’s.
So not only is nancy claiming to be something she is not, she is whining about something she either a: Clearly does not understand, or b: is deliberately mischaracterizing to make a point.
Sorry, nancy. Still, even fishface has a chance of making it into heaven, according to my philosophy mentors, all those years ago. To them I say, Yay! if she can make it in, they’ll open the front doors for me!!
I’m constantly boggled by what people consider Christian behavior, and by what is considered Catholicism. The years I spent in seminary were onerous at the time, but in retrospect, they were unspeakably productive; I know what the rules are, I understand how they are written and why, and I understand what the faith means. Painfully the only person with whom I can have an intelligent conversation about this with is a self avowed agnostic Jew. (Not that this is a bad thing; it just annoys me not to be able to find a single Catholic who has the intellect to discuss Church law.)

Well, I was raised a Baptist and baptized as a Methodist, and I agree with you 100%. Part of my gripe about Sunday School is that it consists of unqualified people trying to teach things they have no understanding of at all to ignorant people who think they are some sort of authority. It’s all flying by the seat of one’s pants, and these “teachers” are literally making it up as they go along, based on some half-remembered, mis-interpreted saying of Jesus told to them by Marxists.
You cannot be a Catholic and favor abortion.
Sure you can.
You’ll just be a schismatic or a heretic.
You can be a bad Catholic and favor all kinds of things…
Wrong.
I’m an agnostic, but I find Catholic church law and politics fascinating, even though I admit I don’t know enough about either to have a really good discussion about them (and therefore, unlike most people, don’t base iron clad opinions on them based on what I only THINK I know).
That said, Ala Carte Catholism does not exist, not matter how much Blinky McBotox wishes it did.
Would you make the same statement about being Catholic and favoring capital punishment?
And you make a compelling argument for going to seminary, even at my advanced age. Maybe after the girls are out of the house.
It occurs to me that we already have laws in the US about the justified use of deadly force, and Catholic law is consistent with the secular law. If carrying the child to term threatens the life of the mother, or will result in severe bodily harm, forcible sexual assault or kidnap of the mother (or someone else)then deadly force is justified. It’s consistent and it has nothing to do with a belief in God or being Catholic. It does depend on people understanding that human life begins at conception. Clearly, not everyone accepts that. (Or maybe they do, and just don’t want to admit it?)
If They Bother You, Kill them
Works OK for the rest why should you bother.
THE TROLL
Happy T-Day to you there Og. And all the people reading this.
Jesus Christ died on a cross for all of our sins.
The rest is just semantics.
Is this the same women who complained that the freshmen R’s in Congress (of the Tea Party variety) actually believe in principle, and can’t be bought off by earmarks for their districts or sweetheart deals for themselves, but actually vote on their beliefs whether it helps or hurts them?
Paul:
“Jesus Christ died on a cross for all of our sins.”
He also said, with his own mouth, “I came not to do away with the law”.
Tony: There are biblical proscriptions for execution. The executee has chosen behavior that separates himself from normal society, and has done so in a way that makes his re-entry impossible.
I think everyone understands life begins at conception. That zygote is not a cockroach, or a virus, or a disease, but a human being. It will always be a human being, and it will never be anything else. Those who want to remove the humanity of it are the ones anxious to remove the hmanity from all of us.
What Paul B. said.
Skip:
So there was no reason for Christ to live for those other 33 years, right? he died on the cross, and that’s all that you need to know.
Most of the people I would describe as hypocrites and morons would agree with that statement. Crucifixion was the culmination of Christ’s efforts, but to discout the rest of his teachings is to chose not to be a Christian.
“That zygote … will always be a human being, and it will never be anything else. Those who want to remove the humanity of it are the ones anxious to remove the hmanity from all of us.”
That is a fascinating statement; believing that has HUGE implications for how a person lives. I’m going to have to think about it a lot more.
You know, when Judas betrayed Christ and the soldiers came, Jesus asked whether any of the disciples had swords. “Sell your cloak and buy one,” or something to that effect, and when he was told that two of the disciples had swords, he said, “That is enough.”
So Jesus himself made a case for self-defense, and for carrying weapons, in spite of “turn the other cheek”.
…I’d better stop now before I write a book.
If the Left can convince people that it’s OK to kill an unborn child just because it’s inconvenient to the sexual freedom of the mother, then after a while, all they have to do is prove that YOU are inconvenient. After all, they’ve already convinced people that it’s OK to end a life just because it’s inconvenient. The hard part of the argument is over.
What, do you think that the Party of Death wants to stop with just the unborn children? These are the people who push an ideology that has killed over one hundred MILLION people. What makes you think that you won’t be the first person shoved up against a wall and shot in the back of the head by your Marxist masters after you refuse to give them what you owe from your ability?
Even with all her millions of dollars, Nancy won’t have enough riches to last her for eternity.
All of her paltry treasure is here and now and stored in herself.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
As for Nancy and her ilk…
I still think we should start by contaminating the botox supply with something that doesn’t kill you for about a year to a year in a half and is hard to trace back to the source.
Think about how many of society’s problems problems this would solve in one stroke.
