I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it . . . but they have this conscience thing.”

Let me stop you there, fishface. You cannot be a Catholic and favor abortion. Period, full stop, end of question, no discussion. Also, you wouldn’t know truth if someone jammed it up your keister.

Nancy whines on and on about MD’s choosing not to perform abortions, and then says “”They will be voting to say that women can die on the floor and health-care providers do not have to intervene”

Any real Catholic knows that in any case where the mother is in danger from the child, even the most ardent Catholic MD will perform an abortion. This is established Christian law, and it is based on Hebrew law; Rambam himself made this clear in the Mishneh Torah in the 1100’s.

So not only is nancy claiming to be something she is not, she is whining about something she either a: Clearly does not understand, or b: is deliberately mischaracterizing to make a point.

Sorry, nancy. Still, even fishface has a chance of making it into heaven, according to my philosophy mentors, all those years ago. To them I say, Yay! if she can make it in, they’ll open the front doors for me!!

I’m constantly boggled by what people consider Christian behavior, and by what is considered Catholicism. The years I spent in seminary were onerous at the time, but in retrospect, they were unspeakably productive; I know what the rules are, I understand how they are written and why, and I understand what the faith means. Painfully the only person with whom I can have an intelligent conversation about this with is a self avowed agnostic Jew. (Not that this is a bad thing; it just annoys me not to be able to find a single Catholic who has the intellect to discuss Church law.)
