Last night, at the gas station
I was pumping gas across from a japanese woman-a real Japanese, not Ainoko- and she had the poofiest hair I ever saw on a Japanese person. It was like a JapFro. Is this a new style?

How old was she? Some middle-aged Japanese women get perms like that.
…but there’s an anime director who goes by the name “Nabeshin” (his last name is “WataNABE” and his first name is “SHINichiro” IIRC. Hence “Nabeshin”) and he has a pretty sizable afro.
He’s got a tendency to insert himself into anime series he directs, so–for example–“Excel Saga” has a character named “Nabeshin” in it who is, essentially, this guy. (The original manga didn’t have such a character.)
Point being, there IS a precedent for Japanese people with afros. It’s not common, though.
