Papas got a new red hat
Timothy Dolan is a man to watch. So watch him.
I like his coat of arms, too.
I haven’t followed his career closely, but I will start watching him more closely now. I do remember him wearing a cheesehead, which at least says he has a sense of humor.

Wearing a cheesehead shows an appalling lack of judgement and taste (typed while wearing my Bears jersey)
:)
lol. Grau, you know I don’t do crap with sports, but let me remind you that not too horrible many years ago, some shithole team in Indiana kicked the bears’ ass, didn’t they?
Barnhardt has a history on him, and I expect she’s got a better idea than I do, and it doesn’t look good. Like anything else, it’s wait and see.
That says volumes on the respect you have for Barnhardt. I hadn’t read her commentary and followup on Dolan thoroughly until you wrote this. When I say conclude “EVERY institution …” I am not a happy reporter.
Thank you for introducing me to Ann Barnhardt’s blog. I’ve fallen in, and just crawled out after reading post after post. I found a new heroine.
This situation is exactly the same. Our Blessed Lord is the kid in the shower – and remember that Our Lord was a ten year old boy Himself approximately 2002 years ago. You are Mike McQueary. You see what the Sanduskys of the world are doing to Him – and the analogy is very, very apt. Our Sweet Lord just takes it in silence, just like He took it in silence at the Pillar, and just like He took it in silence on the Cross. What are you going to do? Are you going to run away? Are you going to turn your back on Him and tell Him, “YOU’RE NOT WORTH IT” just like McQueary did to that kid? Christ is looking at you, right now, in this moment. Feel His gaze upon you. Are you going to abandon Him? If you do, you may just hurt Him worse than the “Sanduskys”.
Very aptly put, very.
The only way that a Dolan or any other clergyman could inspire a person to leave the Church is if the person worshiped the clergy, and not Christ, which implies that the person does not believe in the Real Presence of the Eucharist – and that’s really it right there. No one who believes in the Real Presence of the Eucharist could EVER leave the Church. Period. And, no person who believed in the Real Presence of the Eucharist, given that knowledge, could ever NOT ENTER the Church (girl raises hand).
Which is why, even as I fury against what I see as a massive scale of betrayal by the very consecrated men and women of the Bride of Christ, I. Just. Can’t. Quit. You. (though I often look toward the Orthodox churches with their valid sacraments and wonder if the jump should happen…)
It truly makes a person despair. What am I doing? What am I fighting for? Is this society worth it? Do we even DESERVE to be free? I see stuff like that and all I can think is that a significant percentage of this population DESERVES to be caged like animals. We don’t DESERVE to be free. But then I remember the First Sorrowful Mystery. I remember Christ in the Garden, being saddled with every sin committed by every person. How could He have been saddled with every sin, including the sins of those men in that chat forum, and still deemed us to be worth it and still go to the pillar and the Cross? Oh, yeah. Love.
Amen.
I don’t know much about Miss B, but she has some solid points. She may be a bit more critical than I about certain things, but time will tell. I DO like that she finished with a “Please God let me be wrong”. It’s happened before, look at Becket.
Between you, Pascal, Fran (Porretto), and Barnhardt, ya’ll make my mind hurt. In a good way… Yeah, there is envy, but the constructive kind, that which makes one want to become better at what they do, because of the (higher) standards imposed by others.
Thanks for sharing.
