Ever since
I assembled my own AR, I have been impressed with the Stoner design, and frankly, my admiration for it grows. It’s a very interesting platform.
At Prof., hale’s I’ve been having a heated discussion about accurizing said firearm, and while I am far from being an expert on the platform, there are a few things very obvious to me. I will try to discuss them in upcoming posts, once i get some accurate models of the components which I can cut away and do finite element analysis on.

This should be interesting. Looking forward to it.
Amazingly simple, isn’t it? I’ve built three over the past 30 years or so.
Recommend getting a gunsmith to check the head space, just in case.
I’ve built one, and have another in progress.
(A “prototype”-style top-cock model built off a NoDak Spud upper and 601-style lower.
Because retro is fun.)
(Also, gunsmith? That’s what gauges are for!)
I haven’t got a set of go/nogo for 223 yet, nor for 5.56, I have to look and see what the dimensional differences are. I might make a set.
Og, while you’re researching, add the .223 Wylde chamber to your dataset.
It was developed to bridge the difference between the .223/5.56 NATO, and function effectively and most of all accurately with either.
Means you’d also not worry about overpressure, as you’d have to when firing 5.56 from a true .223 Remington dimensioned chamber.
My 18 in. medium weight Lothar-Walther barrel is Wylde chambered, with a 1 in 8 twist. Wicked accurate.

‘Cause I figured a gunsmith would have them. If I only build one AR15 every ten years, why buy a set of go/no-go gauges. Just something else to misplace. An AR can be built with a minimum of special tools. An AR15/M16 multi-tool, handguard removal tool and a set of punches are all that’s needed above and beyond needlenose plyers and a hammer. Make friends with a gunsmith and he’ll do it for free or at least coffee and donuts.
Gauges like that are often quite cheap. And if I can get an accurate print I can make them myself.
Need to finish the one I got from Sarco. The one I had built earlier really like that Tula ammo. It was more accurate the crapper the ammo. I put some high dollar rounds through and barely got paper.
I am interested in seeing how the Sarco one will behave. Shorter barrel more in keeping with the kind of gun the TUla is aimed at.
Hey Og!
I should’ve known you’d still be out here. Good to hear from you. Ya know, I should write a little more/again.
I will be looking forward to your AR posts. The wife and I just agreed the other day, we need to get a rifle, and why not one that would be fun too?
